Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to get the tape measure handy. I was afraid the hold down tabs/groves might not match up.
The guy at Costco is going to get hit with some questions.

I replaced my factory battery last summer, and I replaced it with one from Costco. I just checked what the book said in the battery isle, purchased that size, and it fit perfectly.
I heard that the 6 sp and the CVT used different sizes but if one is a perfect fit that's good news, thanks.

Another 6 speed SL! Nice! I have an 07 too!
It's a nice car but not enough overdrive. I'd like to get my hands on the boob that designed the transmission ratios.
I wish I could get an aftermarket set of 3.34 final drive gears. I already have the absolute largest diameter tires on it. When new the space between the rubber and the spring holder is less than 1/8 inch, or 3 mm. :surprise

Between the rubber and the spring holder? What dimension are you talking about? Between the sidewall and the spring perch on the strut?

The gearing is what makes a 6 speed sort of peppy, or at least adequate for city driving. I don't understand how the CVT/Auto guys drive these things around, a 1.8 let alone a 1.6, gutless gutless gutless!

Did you go in for the upper strut bearing involuntary recall?
The spring perch sounds like it might be right. The edge of the tread is the other point.
I live in a semi rural area and don't need peppy. Did you know the 6 speed wasn't really designed to go over 60 mph? Over 60 the fuel economy drops off quickly and high rpms are bad for an engine.

Never heard of the recall. Tell me more.

Here's the story on the Costco battery:
CAN'T GET ONE FOR THE MT, ONLY THE CVT according to the reference guide book and the guy at Costco.
Why they have 2 different batteries for the same car/engine is beyond me.

UPDATE...
The correct battery for the MT tranny is a 90 or T5. It is an ODDBALL size but it looks like SOME Walmarts carry it or can special order it. Another item about Nissan that pisses me off. I can't get the Costco battery for $80, I have to spend $120 for a lower quality battery.

Are you a through and through muscle guy though? Whats your oppinion on the popularity of imports in the car scene, and all these new stupid ricer trends (stance, nonsense paint jobs, anime garbage)?
Too old to care. I just want more overdrive in my Versa 6 sp.

I needed a new battery for my 2009 Versa S with MT-6 a couple of months ago. I was unable to find a battery with the correct length! The height and width were fine. The replacement batteries were all about 1" longer so I was unable to close up the battery heat shield so I left the open gap on the side away from the engine. My local NAPA dealer had the best price for the 7590 battery. The longer battery fits fine in the battery tray. Double check the length of your old battery and I believe the 51R is also longer than the original so the battery heat shield will not close up around the battery.

Thanks Frank. This sounds like the way to go but I want to get the Costco 51R battery for $80.

Costco currently has no battery that will fit the MT Versa.

This battery from Walmart is $118 has a 3/2 yr warranty and is installed for free at a store that has an auto service shop.

Costco is dropping their Kirkland brand auto battery and switching to Interstate batteries (same exact battery anyway). They will have a bigger selection with the Interstate brand but the 90/T5 oddball that fits the Versa MT is a long shot...

stay tuned

I ended up getting an OEM battery from a Nissan dealership in Portland, OR while there on a visit. No sales tax and a 10% off coupon brought the price to $103.50 and it's an 84 month battery.
The 7+ year old original was still cranking fine when I took it out.
