Replaced the clockspring recently on my 2011 Versa hatchback due to some of the wheel controls not working.I bought a $26 unit off of ebay if that helps any. Changing the clockspring solved the issues I had, but popped up a traction control light and a airbag light up on the dash. Ran a scanner on the car, air bag has a short. Not sure if its a faulty clockspring or if the plugs of the airbag didn't secure correctly. That's part of the problem, but I'm not too worried about that because the airbag is under a recall so the dealership will be changing that soon.

A Toyota tech mentioned to me that Toyotas need to "relearn" the steering rotation from center to left and center to right full turns before the computer can be kosher with its rotation radius. Could this be the same issue with Nissan? I searched the web quite a few times and have come up with many relearning tutorials for the throttlebodies, but NOTHING for the steering wheel.

I replied in the other thread but I'd like to add something.
when you replaced the clockspring I guess you had to attach the SAS sensor from the old clockspring, the one with the little white harness, right? It should be Bosch branded.

I guess that's what it's triggering the traction control light.

A reset should do it.

Did you proceed to code reset the airbag after the reistallation?

The Versa does not need any special treatment of the steering to get it to work right. You have no way to determine true 'center' anyway, only a rough guess.

As I said yesterday, it was the SAS sensor that needed to be "relearnt".

I went to my shop today, 15 minutes and 5$....sensor is reset and relearnt, light is gone.

I actually have a question myself...

After replacing the clockspring I started to notice a little noise coming from the steering wheel, like a little plastic "click" when I slightly move the steering wheel to the right or left.

I tried to depress the clockspring front mask with a flat screwdriver and the noise was gone...so I guess it might need to be adjusted a couple of mm.

Is there a way to adjust the spring contact pressure on the wiper/cruise/signal cluster? The cluster can be adjusted down the steering column a few mm or the spring contact can be depressed slightly to relieve the pressure and remove the noise?

Can you elaborate on who "my shop" is? Is it the dealership, or just a shop who has a scanning tool to reset? I had a friend come over with his scanning tool and read the codes. He reset the codes, but the tracsion control light came back on shortly after he reset it.

"my shop" in this case is a mechanical bodyshop. I didn't go to my dealer this time because a level 2 tool was needed and I go to the dealership only when a level 3 tool is needed (like Consult III tool like to reprogram BCM etc).

Only resetting the codes is not enough...the sensor has to be calibrated because the steering degrees are off by a lot :)

Take it to a bodyshop, they'll do it.

The only way steering degrees can be 'off a lot' is by putting the clockspring in incorrectly as in not centered itself.

The service manual shows absolutely ZERO steering 'calibration' procedures for that year model ('11), the only mistake there is one of not getting the clockspring mark centered with the steering wheel mark and an installer issue. The only fault code resolution provided for is unplugging the clockspring and plugging it back in, read the diagnosis flowchart. There is NO code for the spring or the steering not being in 'calibration'.

Making noise suggests a spring not centered, it then has slack on one end to likely stick up to rub something. The other end will be too tight then and break way early due to that.

RTFSM...............
