The A/C button on my '08 hatch is starting to take a looong time to respond to presses, so I figure it's about time for a replacement before I turn it on and can't turn it off again. I've done stereo installs on other cars, so I have some experience. I looked at videos on how to disassemble the Versa dashboard and it doesn't look too difficult.

I see there are used clusters available on eBay for around $50 so I was thinking about replacing it myself. There are separate compatibility listings for the 07-09 and the 10-13 climate controller, but the parts look identical. There are also different ones for the 12-13 sedan. Presumably the 10-13 ones are from the hatchback.

Obviously, I'd like to get a newer one. So is the 10-13 hatch climate control unit the same?

Well, I decided to go ahead and get the 10-13 part. I scrutinized every available picture from all sides and couldn't find any difference. All the ports, parts and wires are the same as far as I can tell.

For reference, here's the 07-09 climate controller:

And here's the 10-12:

I haven't seen any reports on the buttons not working on the newer model years, so hopefully Nissan just changed the button connection and it will work and solve the problem once and for all. If not, I'll just get a 07-09 part to go in the car and do a teardown comparison between the bad 07-09 and the 10-13 so we can find out why the part number changed.
