CVT Swap

Hey Ladies and Gents,

This is my first time on the board and I wanted to say it's good to have a group of people who own Nissan's, especially the Versa! I had a serious question about CVT transmission swapping to manual.

How much would it cost to swap a CVT Transmission for a Manual? (An estimate would suffice)
Also, is it a bad idea to swap transmissions for the sake of building your dream tuning car?

Much appreciated mates,

Way too much work involved. Should've had a 6spd from the start.
i hear a bunch of gobbling....

anyway, if you have the money and dont want to trade your car in, it can and has been done. you will need the new tranny, clutch, flywheel, ecu, and all the interior stuff like the pedals, gearbox, etc. no its not easy, if you got the deep pockets dont listen to these sissies and go ahead. then you can run mad boost without worrying about blowing up the cvt, it doesnt handle high temp well at all. if your dream tuner is your versa then you're gonna have to do this eventually...

as for an estimate....between 5k-10k, depending on whether you can do any work yourself or have connections. you can get the parts cheaper thru a junkyard or a site like car-parts.com, but labor is what is gonna cost you the most. the estimate may seem high, but you have to remember the versa is a fairly new car, its not like an old civic or something. good luck with whatever you decide :)
^ "mad boost" huh? i can't see the manual trans taking much more than 200hp..not to mention the lack of aftermarket clutch. As well as the fact that if you want a 6spd versa and are willing to pay 5-10k to get it - just go buy a used versa 6spd
Gentlemen,

I appreciate the advice and I will take everything into account. Money is not a problem as I have excess to spend. Just making my dream car with the original car I bought. Creativity? Maybe... Awesomeness - YOU KNOW IT!

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen, and feel free to continue commenting, if you feel the need.

mr20! mr20! mr20!
Or just buy a spec v....six speed and 200 hp..ftw! But the versa and base sentra six speed can handle boost...but if ur looking for high power it won't. Guy did a 400+ whp build on his mr20 and had to swap his tranny for a spec v tranny

Dude, just get a compact car, skip all the subcompacts altogether. Get something like a Subaru Impreza, Spec V or a Mazda 3 hatchback. You're putting too much time and effort that's not worth the trouble, LOL... or you should of bought a 6spd Versa to being with.

How much excess money are we talking about, cause if it really is excess I second Hschlick84 and would recommend an STi, Evo, 370Z, or Speed3/6. With excess cash the choices are limitless. The V is not really much to begin with, don't get me wrong, I love the V but if power is what you're looking for you picked up the wrong car buddy. In any case, good luck. Oh and it probably wont be cheap.
I agree with the others. With excess cash I'd either invest it, buy a home, or buy a second car! But if you really love the Versa that much, then give the swap a shot!

Hey guys,

I'm loving the input! I have about 50K stashed away in an account I like to call upgrade central. Haha, but, I will look into getting another car, transmission swap, and possibly continuing this journey with my Versa. Loving the discussion!

P.S. Should have gotten the six-speed, but, my parents bought the Versa as a graduating gift. Couldn't complain on a deal and steal. Good times! ;-)
50K wow? And if you got it as a graduation gift, you are very lucky! So yes, no complaining. :)

^this

but its ur munny do what you want.
Damn 50k and your parents got you a car for graduation???? Wanna trade lives lol. What I would do is buy myself a weekend car, something like an Evo, STi, 370Z, etc. The other thing you could do if you really wanna do the swap is just trade in your V for a 6sp one. The diffrence that you might need to put down might be cheaper than going with the swap, specially if you're paying cash. Not to mentioned hassle free lol. And then I would really start building the V from the ground up. With great power(MONEY), comes great responsabilities(LOTS OF PARTS AND FUN) lol. Good luck with everything and keep us posted on what you decide to do. =)
Just buy a slightly used EVO X and call it a day!
maybe he is going for the awe that will come with a sleeper versa! come on who would really expect a versa as a badass tuner? its only a vision for me at the moment but i too hope to make it a reality! so i say do as you please, if you want to turn heads tune the versa, or if you want to be a square peg for a square hole then buy something everyone knows can be fast... i hope my input helped you out a bit, also i must say you are very well mannered! lol...
It can be done. I guy on the Sentra forums took a 2.0 with CVT, and popped in a 6sp, and rebuilt the 2.0. It's nice. There's a couple small things ive done, that people on here was like "why do that?" "buy one already on there", I did it, and was very easy. You never know till you try, and if it's something you really wanna do, hey!!, don't let anyone tell you no!! GO AND DO IT!!!!! We all know that the 2.0 can fit. Try and do the 2.5 with a 6spd. That would be freakn awesome!!! I know the computer has to be changed out, but do some research, and see how hard it really would be. Im not even sure if it would fit in that small area, but who knows.
the guy who did the 6spd swap (the sentra) built the engine and currently runs 15psi on his turbo and gets 320whp. if you got the munny do what you want.
