DIY Transponder key programming ?

20641 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  over40
Looking to get another key and dealer wants $150 for replacement - locksmith wants $108.

Is there a way to program these yourself?? (2011 Versa S)

Know you can do the remotes yourself but can the keys be done also?

You could try buying a blank with the transponder in it and then the procedure below. It looks like you have to have power locks and a key fob that locks/unlocks the doors though.

I know the thread title says Tiida only but someone got it to work on a Versa.

This appears to be for the key fob (remote) only - not the key itself. I had seen something similar posted. Pretty sure the key is separate but maybe not. It's the key that we need.. tks
Update: I found a locksmith that cut a new transponder key for $69. They have key blanks and separate chips that they put into the blanks after the chip is programmed ... which allows them to do it for much less than a dealer. At least that is what mine did. HD/Lowes couldn't do my Versa and would have been more than the locksmith if they could. FYI
