Probably not a good idea with a CVT. If you're serious then, start in L, shift to D, and turn off OD. You can't have the OD off when you're in L, remember that. Otherwise I'm not sure what else to help you with, good luck.
Seems to hit the max that it'll rev at about the same rate in L or D with OD off...should I just switch to D when it gets up to 6k or wherever it stops? Can't seem to redline car with the CVT ever. Yeah I've noticed you can't have the O/D off in L, and if you have it off in D and switch to L it is on when you back up.

Should probably also put 93 octane in her before I go :D

Not really looking to set a good time, looking to set a good time for a Versa. Also there will likely be other economy and passenger cars there, so we'll see. If I go it probably won't be until next Wed.
Anyone know the ideal RPMs to brake-torque the Versa? Not something I would do often but I figure once or twice at the drag strip can't hurt.
Ok guys...let's get real. A cvt is a "gear less tranny"! Putting it in low, or o/d off will do nothing in racing....will not improve ur take off... L gear is just like leaving it in first gear. It will help you launching off a roll cause ur car won't down shift. Leaving o/d off will make you lunch from a roll at higher speeds but you won't rev to the limit it can go. In a cvt the best thing to do it hold the gas down and leave it. No shifting no nothing just leave it mashed to the ground. You will get peck hp out of it this way and it will be constant instead of having to rebuild when. Shifting!! Putting 93 in your car is also bad! You will burn through it super quick and you won't even notice a change other than poor mpg! I tried everything with my 2.0 cvt and after researching and testing and talking to people. To help with the lag when launch you can add a tranny cooler to it. The cvt in the mr don't have one. But in the ser and altima do! So that could help!

This is funny, drag racing in an economy "automatic" of all things.. car lol! What are you racing against.. a prius an aveo? Seriously racing and versa do not go together. If I were you and you really want to race buy a car that's built to race not one that's supposed to get you from home to work.
You know technically, the OP should have an advantage if he was against, say, another 1.8 Tiida with a 4 speed auto!

The CVT would keep the car in the ideal power band continuously.

I say leave it on L.

That said....lulz @ this thread.
Ummm.. sell it and buy a 6spd. lol.

But honestly launching a versa even in 6spd is hard. The line between spinning and launching is so fine without an LSD tranny. With my 2.0, its almost impossible. Lol. And i run toyo T1R tires. Your goodyears dont stand a chance.. Just put it in D and stomp the skinny pedal

Will I blow up my tyranny if I take it to the drag strip for fun? Planning to start in L and pin the gas to the floor. Neighbor tells me NOT TO DO IT, boyfriend says it will be "fine". This is just for fun. Should I go for it???
Go for it. Then, based on the outcome, dump your boyfriend.

No, it's the other way.
Dump the boyfriend first. Then, if he wants back make him pay for a new transmission.

Just mash it in D. It probably can't spin the tires and the cvt will keep it at max power under WOT.

The service manual has the stall speed in it, but I don't remember offhand. Something like 2300rpms maybe, but you can't do that for more than like 5 seconds, before the fluid gets too hot. The torque convertor heats the shoot out of the fluid while power braking. You might get to make a pass or two in limp mode!
