Electrical problems

Ok I have been having electrical problems with my
v for quite some time now. It's been in the shop 4x for the same problem and now I have to take it back again today.

Last night I noticed when I roll my windows down my rpms go down to like 500 and my headlights get faint. So I rolled down all 4 to see what it would do and my windows stopped working. They wouldn't roll back up. After I started and stopped the car a couple times one finally went up about an inch. After sitting there for a while I finally got them all up.

Also when I rolled down my windows my car shook like it was going to die. BUT I am also experiencing this shake and random moments when I am stopped. This is the problem that just won't go away... Any ideas?

Okay, I'm pretty sure we've said this before but I'll say it again....

Power window motors drain a lot from your car. Take it back a thousand times your dealer will keep humouring you. There is no real 'fix' for this UNLESS you have a serious earthing problem, which if that was true you'd have elec problems elsewhere too.

Every car I have ever owned with power windows can almost stall a car if you wind down multiple windows at once. Doing so and pushing them past their stop point is a great way to either burn fuses, wires or window motors.

This technology is prehistoric, but in the rough and tough lives of being fitted to a car they kinda need to be prehistoric.

Trying to cause them to fail is a good way of getting your dealers attention, however I think you'll find a burnt stator won't get covered by warranty as there is only one way to do that.
That's not the main problem in my car. It's the shaking. It just occurred when I rolled the window down. Although the dealer said that they haven't ever heard of this happeneing before.

She did say that since I have an amp, subs, and neon underglow that it might be using too much power and could be messing up my altenator or something.
upgrade your alternator or enjoy the shaking. You are asking way too much of your V's tiny alternator. Put you lights on, hazards, heater, rear defrost, underglow and radio on then try and roll down all four of your windows at the same time. I'm betting your car shakes more and possibly even stalls.

LIke Aus said check your grounds (earth). If they are intact then your issue is not really an issue.

and stop trying to do all four at once. Do one at a time. I'm betting the when you do one at a time they go up quicker and your car doesn't shake.
If you're running amp, sub AND neons, you should be running at least a 1Fahrad capacitor. Your installer should have recommended this as newer cars have enough leccy pull without adding extra current draw.....plus it'll help your amp crank more as its fast usable juice. :)
Just got off the phone with the Nissan people she said it's deffinetly the altenator but she doesn't know the source yet.

Didn't know you could upgrade an altenator. I also paid to get my lights and amp/subs installed. You think they'd tell you about that. Tha ks for the help! I'll keep you posted.

Unfortunately there aren't too many installers i know that have skills AND brains :p
Where would you find an upgraded versa altenator? I googles but didn't find
anything :/
Get a price quote from the dealer.:driving: Other than that, I have no idea.
It really just seems like the dealer is trying to delay fixing my car. I have been in for this SAME problem 5 times now and its something different every time. The first time they blamed it on me and than the second time they figured out that it infact wasn't my fault in the first place so I had to pay for no reason.

Than once that whole thing was squashed the guy I was originally working with quit and now they are trying to blame it on me again. I understand that things take power but I honestly don't think that an Amp/Subs, and 4 LED lights are enough power to drain my alternator.

Last night was the only night that I rolled down all the windows at once so that can't be the problem. There is just no way that could do that much damage IMO.

I just don't understand.
:iagree:They're just trying to jerk your chain around. Go to a different dealer and see what they say. :2cents:

You don't need a new alternator, a 1 Fahrad capacitor is a hi-fi/car audio item that can help your audio system and thus your electronics. Its not mandatory but if you got a pumping amp and sub combo its recommended.

I guess I can repeat myself a few more hundred times, but EVERY CAR I have ever owned that has power windows makes the engine struggle and the revs drop at idle. This is not a new found error :)

If you drop all your windows down and hold them once they've hit the break, you can be almost guaranteed to burn a stator.

Women are friggen awesome for doing this, and moreso for destroying power steering pumps because apparently you can hang your bodyweight off of the steering wheel to make it turn that much more :p

:smilielol5: That's why a lot of women shouldn't drive.
I will go to my local radio shop on Saturday cause I have a busy schedule tomorrow.

The shake isn't when I roll down the windows. It just happened that one time. It's never done that before.

It usually shakes when I come to a stop or am idling for a little bit. If they say I need a new alternator I will just tell them not to fix it and I will take it to a different dealer to get a second opinion. :D
Let us know the outcome dude!

Also, check out some capacitors online like the Rockford Fosgates, I heard they're good stuff bro.
depending on how many amps you pulling through the rest of the system i might actually recommend installing a deep-cycle race/marine battery instead of a capacitor.
It's 1 Jensen amp and 2 rockford fosgate subs (10's). I used to have an MTX amp but I found this Jensen amp and it blows the MTX out of the water. lol

Anyways I'll make sure I check out all the possibilities. I appreciate all the feedback. I'm glad to see that there are TONS of posts here every day!
the window thing happens to me all the time, i just learned to accept the fact that if i roll all my windows up at once my car might fall apart haha. naw but seriously if i roll like 1 window up and hold it the car shakes, also happens to Superskunks versa too. its annoying
your lucky nissan is even looking at your car. You added amps, sub, lights and now you have an alternator issue. Basically if they wanted they can say your electrical system warranty is void because you had someone tamper with it and it wasn't nissan.

Another thing you used to be able to do in older cars is adjust the base idle. After adding electronics to a car your asking the alternator to work harder. Increasing the idle causes the alternator to spin more which makes more juice to run all your electric goodies.

I don't think there are any upgraded alternators yet for the Versa. MOst likely when our cars get old and people start rebuilding them we will have that option. Or we will figure out a different nissan alt will work.
