I live in Wisconsin and in the last week I have had the Check engine light come on and error code P059F register in the computer on my new 2014 Versa Note. The Service Department says it is because the active grille shutter is not operating properly because of snow getting in that area and restricting the shutter's movement. If that's true, they should not sell any car with the shutter system in any State where it snows. They say I am the first Versa Note they have had do this. Really?? Lucky me!!!

Sorry to hear about you problem. Unfortunately being the first model year of that vehicle, you and other owners of 2014 Notes will be the guinea pigs and encounter issues they probably did not find during testing.

Best thing to do is either yourself or the dealer contact Nissan with respect to the issue. If if becomes a larger problem Nissan can probably work on a fix for it (revised part or something along those lines) and apply it to future Notes and current ones.

I got the same error code a few weeks ago on my 2014 Note The car sat over night and the code came up in the morning after a snowstorm. Turned it off with my Go Point Scanner and have not seen the code pop up again. I was surprised to see that the Go Point described the code.

My dealer is ordering a new grill shutter. After a couple of days, the warning light went off by itself. I heard from another Nissan dealer there is a service bulletin out that says the grill guides need to be replaced. My repairing dealer has not seen that bulletin even though it is on Nissan's service website.

This is the second time that it has happened to me. It seems when there is more than 3 inches of snow on the ground it happens. Going to the stealership this weekend to have them fix their car.

I purchased 2 new 2014 Versa notes here in cleveland heights, ohio on 2/8/2014. One for my wife and One for me. During the hard snow storm we have had along with the thaw and freezing rain both cars logged the code P059F. That is because the ice restricts the active shutters from closing and or opening. Once the ice or snow has melted it operates as normal and the MIL light (check engine light) will go out after a few drives. Ice and snow will get into the active shutter area if you are on the freeway following other cars or trucks. This to me is not a big deal as my wife and i just let the ice or snow melt in the garage. You can get a code reader and reset it yourself if you dont want to take it to the dealer to do it for you or do like we did and let it go out by itself. It will do this if it does not log another code within a drive cycle.

We have no problems accelerating on freeways you just give it more gas and let the CVT roar and you go from zero to 60 in about 5-7sec. With the CVT you have to get to know how it responds. I have been doing 80MPH and dont always notice it as this car wants to "Fly" on the freeway. Also it is very agile to move in and out of traffic quickly. Once up to speed it will keep up with the other high powered cars on the road even at 109 HP it pulls itself well even uphill. Yes the interior does not have all the "flash" but we have found ways to dress it up a bit ourselves. I am thinking about doing some custom work on it. Plenty of room inside very practical for doing things around town and very good fuel economy.

more like 9-11 seconds 0-60 in reality, but most who have driven the notes do say it feels quicker.

agreed, it does feel quick stock, but no where near 5-7 second 0-60 quick...maybe with full bolt ons that would be possible, but so far the only options for bolt ons we have are an intake and hopefully an axle back exhaust in the near future. other than that you're going to need headers and a full cat back exhaust to reach anywhere near the 7 second mark

Found this thread while searching for CEL code P059F..

My CEL came on few days ago. I scanned it with my OBD2 scanner and saw the code P059F. It didn't effect how the car drove, but I went to the dealership and had it replaced under warranty. Strange most people here had the same problem were from where it snows, but I live in California!

I live in CA too. Mine was code was due to a rock stuck in the shutter. Not a warranty item. I now own a $195 rock/pebble, the cost of the diagnostic.
