Front end noise.

I have a 2007 Nissan Versa. It has 87,000 kms/54,000 miles.

Something in the front end is making noise. I seem to hear it when taking a clover leaf ramp and I hit a bump. Or sometimes I just hear it when hitting a bump. Now, it seems to be more frequent. When I step on the brake at slow speeds to stop on can hear the noise.

My brakes seem to be ok. I'm wondering if it's a ball joint or tie rod end.

Are either of these common on these cars?

How do I check them?

If I grab the tire at 3 and 9 o'clock there seems to be play. Looks like it's coming from the ball joint. The passenger side has more play then the drivers side.

How do you change the ball joint?

Thanks.

If my memory hasn't failed, 3 & 9 is more like the tie rod end, and 6 & 12 is the ball joint.
