FYI about changing your car headliner.

Well, I was wanting to change my headliner. I talked to the person who sold me the car. She informed me that all of the mechanics/tech guys said it would be best if I didn't do it my self. It would take hours, especially if you have the hatch back, and with the side air bags (in the headliner).
They said that I could take it to an upholstery shop and see if they could or would be willing to do it. I was also informed that the air bags are attached to the headliner.

Looks like I will find a different way of changing the headliner with out removing it. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Sincerly,
Chelsea

Did that Fit have the rear strut bar mounted on the ceiling???
I was going to tackle this project but just dont have the time. My dealership gave me the printed instructions on how to remove it, and offered to help, but I don't have time to tear my car apart right now. Maybe if I ever take some vacation time and don't leave the country for it haha
Thanks. Some of those look cool. It is giving more ideas of what to do with my car.:37:

Hmm... Maybe what I could do is go and buy the car repair manual. That might have the detailed instructions on how to do it. They seemed pretty strong against me doing it.

Just ask the dealership for you rather than going out to spend $ on it.

Good point. I'll try asking again. Even though it seems like they won't.
Maybe I'll try another nissan dealer if they don't do it.
Some dealerships are willing to work with you more than others are. And a lot of them it seems tend to frown upon the modifying/tuning community.

 That probably explains why they gave me the run around. I'll go try a different dealer and hope I get better results. :)
Airbags are not attached to the headliner.
You need to remove all the vertical panels that meet the headliner before you can take it down.
I removed mine when I did my sound-deadening along with compass/temp mirror and bluetooth microphone wiring.
It was'nt a piece of cake, but not impossible either.
Be sure to dis-connect the battery before you begin to be safe with the pillar air bags.

So then, it's safe to say that my dealership fed me a line of B.S?
Geez. Looks like I'll use them for my warrenty repairs only, if they can't be honest with me. :banghead:
Try another dealer. There are some nice ones out there. Just gotta search!
Thought I should add to this thread that I removed the headliner and it took about 2 hours of work. Id reccomend having a helper for the final removal out of the car.

I have removed the headliner in a hatch. The air bags are not attached tot he headliner. I painted my own. However, it is incredibly difficult to remove and get back in. But yes it does take hours, I think it took me around 8 hours to get mine out, paint it, let it dry for an hour, and put it back in.

that Fitfreak site is nice,,,I wish our site was more like that

Yeah. And for an ugly box car, they had some OK Fits :27:
I watched @athikerguy4life youtube channel so removing the front and center pillars will be no problem, but if anyone has some more precise advice for removing the rear pillars in the HB I would seriously appreciate it! I hate asking my dealership for advice... they always deter me from mods and I went to another which gave me bad info...

I have no doubt it took that long. I finally stopped listening to the dealership on some of the answers they had for my questions. Not sure when, but I am going to tackle this project. :D
