Gas Gauge Erratic

I have a 2011 Nissan Versa 1.8L HB and a 2010 Nissan Versa 1.8L Sedan. On both, the gas gauges were all over the place. Full tank but marking empty or half full, etc. I put a new OEM pump in each but gauges still erratic. When I do the cluster self diagnosis tests, the gauges go up and down no problem. I was going to try to soldering a new stepper motor to replace the gas gauge but not sure if that is even the problem.

Anybody had this issue? Seems to be common but have not seen it where the fuel pump did not solve it.
