The key has to be made with the chip inside; thats why they charge so much. I don't think you can even get a copy made somewhere else because of the chip thing.

I don't know about the base model. Mine has one. A tag with an engraved # is on it, and if I need a replacement key I need to have that # to give to Nissan.

Mine has the Nissan emblem too. If your keys came with a little tag attached you have the chip most likely. I keep the tag at home. Not a good idea to keep it with your keys lol
