All versas no matter what model came standard with the immoblizer. Which is the chip in the key. It is exspenive to replace, and will need to be cut, and programmed to the car. Without it, the car will NOT start. It wont even make a sound. It wont even attempt to crank. If you use a non chip key and try to start, the Versa will believe it is a theift, and go into what you can call "saftey mode, or lock down mode", an will not start. If after that you put the correct key into the ignition, it will atttempt to start, but will not start. You will have to wait about 15 mins, for the Versa to go back into "normal" mode and allow you to start it. That key is very important. I believe Walmart does it for $85, dont quote me, lol I had this happen to me, this is why I know about it, lol, plus I do alot of research on the Versa.
For those of you have smart key, if your battery dies, and you put your key in the knob, the ignition will not move. Your car needs some kind of power to turn the ignition, it happened to the Sentra, Just an FYI.
