Thought I had a catalytic converter problem, changed it. Getting po300 miss fire code, changed plugs. Car is hard to start . Any ideas which direction to go?

First Steps I would test are.
1) check the air pressure coming out of the tail pipe, does it feel normal? You are checking for a clogged catalytic converter or other exhaust component.
Sorry, I know this test is very subjective.

2) What do your fuel trims look like, short term / long term.

It's my understanding that a glowing cat is usually a result of a clogged exhaust, or raw fuel being burned by it.
Seeing how you are having miss-fire's I assume it's the raw fuel issue.

However, If I had to make a guess off the top of my head without any other facts,
I would say a bad fuel pressure regulator or vacuum leak

May be ruining second cat now, they can go bad quick. The mechanism is this: the raw fuel not burned due to misfire then burns in the cat and in short order melts the matrix inside when the temperature goes out of sight, cat is then clogged.

Misfire codes are commonly ignition issues first but can be vacuum leak. Maybe a seriously leaking injector.
