Not to bash 1.6L, but why not just go .2 more and get the 1.8?
Kids and a family. I'm just getting a decent car for the price. This is the beat around car, I was just checking in to find a place if I needed to work on it. I'll go back to my Lincoln MKX or a luxury vehicle when the gas goes down or the mpg gets better.. hehe

Yea, that's great. But don't you want that little extra oomph, for not that much of a price difference? The 1.8L is not speedy. I couldn't imagine the 1.6L. But that Lincoln, that's another story. NICE!

Good luck with your new car!

I had a 1.6 CVT as my rental car for a week on vacation and my 1.8 felt like a beast when I got home. The 1.6 felt very sluggish especially with the A/C running the entire time. It was very very fuel efficient though; much better than my 1.8.

Making them all 2.0s would be great, I dont think the 2.0 is as gas efficient as the 1.6 though.
what I was saying was instead of the way it is now with the 1.6 base and the 1.8 s they should have made the 1.6 base and a 2.0 s. That would have made more sense then what it is now but then again it prolly would have put the versas into the class with the sentras and we couldn't have that lol

I do want to find out "why" Nissan decided to make a 1.6L, really. I mean, the MPGs on the 1.8L is already pretty damn good.

Maybe so it can be a little more affordable? But go for the 1.8L bud! It's not that much more of a price difference. When I 1st got my Versa, they didn't have the 1.6L out yet, nor sedan. Which I wouldn't have gotten anyway. But the car started somewhere mid $14K, and with financing and taxes and etc, went up to $18K+. This was back in OCT 2006 though.

They also didn't have the SL yet..for some reason.

The main reason why I got the Versa was because of its affordability, a lot of room inside, and a 1.8L to save on gas. We also had just had a baby. (Switched from a 2003 2.3L Focus PZEV hatch).

I don't know if yall recall the Versa commercial back in 2006 where the kid in the backseat is holding a cake and doesn't get smooshed because of all the room back there). That right there sold me.

In my opinion Nissan should also offer a higher trim level for the Versa which includes the MR20 (it's an almost identical engine anyway). Something like...

1.6 Sedan
1.8 Sedan

1.8 Hatch
2.0 Hatch (The SL or above maybe) or the Jukes 1.6 Turbo engine.

That way the people who like the Sedan version can have a greater choice and the Hatch lovers can get a sporty variant if they wish.

I picked the 1.6 for mpg. I literally want this car to save me a ton on gas money for the next few years. I have had fun driving motorcycles, nice luxury cars and wasting money. Now it's time to enjoy spending 35 bucks to fill my tank and running for a week or 2 without needing to refill.

That way, I can take that money and invest it, or spend it on my 3 kids. I bought the car today and will post pics. It's pretty base, but it allows me to add all the mods with a simple canvas. I walked out with nearly 2k by trading in a 60k mileage 07 Lincoln mkx and picking up a 2011 1.6L 5 speed manual with 20k in mileage. A fun little car with simple commuting in mind.

Since I don't care about finding my identity in my car, it's not a big deal to drive a basic 1.6 and enjoy the paid off car with no worries for another 10 years(probably won't last that long with this car.. haha) I'll get antsy.

So far, I enjoyed the drive home and stick shifting for the first time since I was 21 in the Marines.

I would have gotten a 2.0L if it was ever offered. Ahh, that'd been nice.

Sounds good. I bought mine for MPGs as well. I work and go to school so I needed something to get me around without killing my wallet at the gas station. What color is yours?
