I'm new to the forum but not new to Versas. I am an ASE Master tech and coming up close on being a Nissan master tech.

We recently had a 2014 Versa Note come in with a failed CVT that I am buying from the customer on Monday, and going to replace the transmission to get a nice driver. I currently have a 2005 Prius with 293k miles and am ready for something without rust!

I certainly don't know everything but love helping out when I can and am always looking to learn more.

Tutti57,

What dealership do you work for, or is it an independent shop?

A little update on my car. It's officially mine! It's also an official disaster inside. I stayed a little late last night and started cleaning it up, but it's bad. I came in today on my day off to put the transmission in. Hopefully all goes well and I finish it. The transmission is in that crate.

Once I get it drivable, I'll register it and get it home for a deep cleaning. Take the seats out, get the inch of dog hair out and shampoo the carpets. Amazingly it doesn't smell bad at all inside.

Well, I didn't finish it today, but got the new one in.

That's the old one in the crate and the new one is buried under all of that mess.

Tutti57,
I have some curiosity questions for ya.

1) What was the price you got the car for?
2) What price you got the transmission for?
3) Is the transmission new? or rebuilt?
4) Did you get the transmission through work, or another source?
5) About how long did the swap take?

I'm glad the customer kept the inside spotless for ya.

When I got my car at auction, it looked just as bad, except the previous owner smoked like crazy.
I had to purchase an Ozone Generator for the smoke smell. After the third time I used the Generator, the smoke smell almost gone!

So the customer really wanted to get rid of the car when they got the bad news and asked if anyone would be willing to buy it for $150, so I jumped on that. I got it through work, so I paid 10% over cost, which is our parts discount and it was I believe $1700 with fluids and stuff. I think the used ones (which I would never buy) were only a couple hundred less. It needed brakes, a headlight is cracked and I just found a drill holes in a tail light, so I expect to have just over $2k into it.

It happened at a great time since my current driver, a Prius, has 294k on it and is getting pretty rusty. I just had to partially rebuild the Hybrid pack and am ready to sell it.

I recently bought the ozone thing too and will be using it on this one. Glad to hear it works!

I forgot to answer a few other questions. It's a remanned, which I believe they all are now. We do not overhaul versa or Sentra cvts, just replace and send back the core.

As for install time, u believe the book time is close to 8 hours. 7.6 maybe? This was my first time doing a versa and I'm not a fast tech. It probably took me more than that being distracted and making a few mistakes that required back tracking.

If I did another one tomorrow it would probably take me 6-7 probably but we have two guys who are CVT specialists and do them all the time in 4-5 hours. They will start one in the morning and be wrapping up around lunch.

Here are some Ozone tips that have worked for me. 30 minutes Max per a treatment. My first time, i cranked it up to 3 hours, and my car smelled like OZone for like 1 week of straight airing it out with fans and everything. I was scared to drive it until the smell dissipated.

When putting the Generator in the car, get it up as high as you can, I stacked a few boxes in the back seat. I read someplace that OZone is heavier then normal air. So if the Generator sit low in the car, it will eventually have no more Normal air to use because it's sitting in all the OZone it's created. Your car will only be half filled with OZone. (hopfully i'm making that clear enough for ya.)
