Hi...I have a 2013 Versa SL with a 1.8 CVT engine. Just recently, I noticed that my car drives with high RPM's when cruising on the highway. Example...At approx 75mph, my RPM's are around 2700-2800. I don't remember it running that high in the past...Not over 2500 anyways. Any reason you can think as to why this is happening?

Next issue (and possibly related to the above?)...My car only has 75,000 miles on it, and I've already replaced my drive belt. And not even two years after I replaced it, it's making the same noises as it made when it needed to be replaced last. Anyone else notice a very short life on these belts?

Any thoughts/suggestions welcomed :)

There is a chrome button on the left side of you shift lever.....any chance you pushed it?

Not sure what you mean by 'drive' belt: do you mean the fan belt (the black belt under the hood)? I can't believe you mean the actual drive belt that is inside the transmission.

Just a note: The engine is a 1.8. CVT is your transmission.

+1 if you do not have OD turned off it could be the cvt fluid needs to be serviced assuming nothing has changed in regards to your cars power needs to over come wind and or rolling resistances. I notice with my honda with a cvt once you exceed like 60 mph the rpm varies with load vs speed as you ran out of ratio for the belt. As the cvt fluid needed changing and it did every oil change of the engine the engine rpm varied more vs held it at higher highway speeds.

Could be the accessory belt wasint installed correctly or in the wrong set of grooves on one of the pulleys. You should be able to look and see if the belt looks like its not aligned up correctly on one of the pulleys.

Alan_nc - I actually meant the serpentine belt, sorry. There is a lot of noise when accelerating (kind of sounds like chains rattling). This was the sound it was making when it first needed to be replaced...After it was replaced, the noise went away. A year and a half later, the noise is back.

To both Alan_nc and Cobb...The O/D button is not pressed in.

Are there any noticeable signs of a CVT transmission that is in need of a fluid change?

The O/D button "should be pressed in", when it's out it's off. Which ever way it is now try driving with it in the other position.

You shouldn't need a serpentine belt that soon but you may have a loose pulley or one that is out of alinement. I'd replace it again........not really all that expensive if it fixes the problem. See if you see an alignment problem when you have the belt off. Also check to see if there is a rough spot in one of the pulleys.

There are things that will let you know the CVT is going bad.......high rpm on the highway is not one of them. Usually it's more vibration when you accelerate or the rpm will get fairly high when you start off from a stop but the car isn't going anywhere fast. That tells you the internal belt in the CVT is starting to slip.
