I have what I like to think of as a "vertical half of an eggshell" sized dent on the driver door of my Nissan versa.

I'll do my best to post a picture of it below.

I really need a breakdown on the products and methods to do this as the most I've ever done is changed my oil and flushed my radiator.

It has a crack on the seam of it.

It is less than 2 inches long and a half an inch wide.

How do I go about repairing this myself cheaply without any problems down the road like rust?

I am a brand new forum member so if this is in the wrong place please let me know. USAA wants to charge me 500 bucks for this.

The damage occurred while I was working at night and my car was in the parking lot. I believe a shopping cart or a car door hitting it.

Some thoughts: Is the door now more receptive to future damage? Is it less safe? How do I ensure no moisture is inside the door before I seal the crack?

Thank you for actually taking the time to help me, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it.

I don't have the money for this to get repaired by my insurer I wish I did but I don't.

How hard can it be right?

In that kind of a spot it can be hard to pull the dent out. Not sure how to do this either, im not a collision repair guy.. If you cant get the dent out, just use some clear nail polish to "fill in" the crack so what doesn't get in and rust underneath the paint.

As for the question of the door sealing, I don't think you'll have any problems with that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. hopefully someone else chimes in here.

Just coat the crack?

Or fill the dent as well?

I will save that as a last resort.

also, after looking at your pictures, you might be able to tap it from behind with a rubber mallet and get the dent out. Use a heat gun or hairdryer to heat up the paint prior to doing this-there will be less chance of the paint chipping if you warm it up. You might also want to wrap a rag around where you're gonna hit it so its not like a direct hit on the door. cheers!

Should I order touch up paint from nissan? I heard I can get clear coat and paint with my vin. How hard do you need to hit a door like this? I'm terribly sorry for sounding like I have no clue. Hopefully I will be able to educate others once I learn enough about this matter. :thumb2:

Check with a painless dent removal company. Big thing is the interior sub structure of the door damaged. If it is just the door skin they might be able to pop it out. Then use touch up paint to fill the cracks or have it painted.

Did you mean paintless? Also the estimator from usaa said all they'd need to do is pop the dent out and paint it, then paint the other door to make it blend. What a bunch of crap for 500 bucks man.....:facepalm:.

What I need to let everyone know is that I can't afford anything past 50 dollars. Thats why I'm looking for a Do It Yourself fix.

I just got off the phone with USAA, they've cut me a check of 200 bucks, What I do and Where I go is up to me. So does anyone know how much it would cost roughly to get this dent popped out? I think I'll just have it popped and I'll touch up and clear coat it myself.

Turns outI would have to come up with 200 bucks for the repair. They just gave me the other half of it. So since I live in RI I have the right to use the money as I see fit. I can go to any body shop or DIY.

Do you think a hair dryer and some air duster upside down will work?

What about a hair dryer and some dry ice?

So long as I can get the touch up paint cheap and a good method to pop it I got it made.

Eventually I'll have her repainted when she hits the 8-10 years old mark. Till then I'm more concerned about preservation.

for me I wouldn't do anything to it ^_^ just use a clear nail polish to patch up the little cracks. Once you saved up some cash get an estimate from a trusty shop. Shop will probably sand it, pry it back to place, fill then paint. probably a 200~300 dollar job or even cheaper ^_^. as of now it looks fine and it wouldn't cause any damage to the car. Personally I stopped getting my car fix for dings and dents after getting the same dents back after 1 month lmao.

wow that's a rip off go shop around some more. If you are here in CA you can bring it to Bastoli or go to Auto Hobby center and ask around where you can get it done cheaper

Yeah RI is where I live, taxes and labor rates are high. I'll try air duster, dry ice, then ill shop around.

Where are you going for estimates? Most top dog pros are gonna replace the door, thats why its so exspenive. Our 2010 sentra has a nice crease dent about 5-6" long, and a local body shop said he would do it for $280. Fix the dent and paint it. If your thinking about doing it urself, then in my opinion, the quality deosnt matter too much. Id go to one of them. The $280 estimate was from Peaches auto body in Winston salem, NC.

Would the dent on my door be considered a crease dent?

I heard dry ice works if it is not creased. the cost was for dent removal and blending the paint. lmao. I was getting jacked im sure. I wanna give the dry ice method a go. perhaps one day I will get her repaited a sick neon green. until then, id love to order a small amount of clear coat and paint from nissan if this dry ice method works.

Trying it this weekend so ill keep you posted.
