What's going on Versa peeps!

My girlfriend owns a Versa as well but it's a sedan model instead of the hatch. Oh and it has about 120,000 miles on it. Pretty insane considering she owned it for just 5 years! :eek6: With this many miles saddled on any car, things are bound to go bad; sure enough, her alternator died the other day. Naturally I was called into duty to fix her ride :thumb2:

So here is the procedure for replacing the alternator on a '07 Versa. It probably applies to other model years and the hatchback model too :smilejap:

Where is the alternator located relative to the engine?




1) Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.

2) Remove drive belt.

3) Disconnect alternator connector.

4) Remove “B” terminal nut. Be sure to tighten “B” terminal nut carefully.

5) Remove alternator bolts.

6) Remove alternator assembly from the vehicle.

To install:

1) Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

looks pretty simple... The location is what makes me wonder how long it would take to replace and how difficult it would be to get it removed.


I'm at 91,000 miles, did it show any warning signs the alternator was going bad?
slow wiper blades, dimmer dashlights and headlights or anything else?
or just didn't start and battery was dead?

Thanks for taking the time to write this. No offense to you or anyone else that has been doing these copy pastes of the factory service manual "how to's" but in this section it would be more helpful to the DIYer to have actual pics of the experience. Also include the tools needed. Maybe even belt part numbers since it would be a common thing to change while doing this. There is a tensioner pulley that must be loosened and moved in order to "remove drive belt" as you say in step two. But no mention of how to do this or it's location.

I think this is a good start to a how to but is lacking a little bit of into.

I would delete this whole post because this is not a how too. What the poster dosent mention is how to know when ur alternator is going out and how to properly replace it. As seeing as I am probably the only one to have done it, I can tell u the whole post is wrong

Nissan versa 07 alternator replacement

Alternator, Replace
Vehicle: 2007 Nissan Versa SL 1.8 L4 GAS
Remove front passenger wheel. To the right of the shock/spring housing you'll see two plastic pins. This holds the splash shield in place, remove them & open the splash shield. Using a 14mm wrench, put it at about 4 o'clock on the spring tensioner arm & pull down. This relives tension on the belt, slide the belt off the wheel that's to the right of tensioner. Go under the hood, using a 10mm socket disconnect neg side of terminal on the battery. These other steps are to allow room to work & space to remove alternator. Next remove the 2 bolts on the nissan plastic engine cover housing & the engine cover housing BRACKET that's located at the front LEFT corner of the valve cover. Unbolt ground strap that's located on the cars frame right behind the left headlight, in addition left to ground bolt, unbolt the bracket that supports the a/c line. Remove radiator reservoir tank, disconnect belt & wires from the alt. The two 13mm bolts on the alt use a wrench. When loosen then use a 1/4 ratchet with a 13mm socket. Slide bolts out as FAR as possible. Now you should be able to wiggle out alt & bolts as one piece. I had to use a long screw driver/bar to dislodge alt. Install in reverse order. Total time took me about an hour.

#5 Their is no way you can remove bolts, that hold the alternator as stated. They are unbolted and removed with the alternator as one unit.

When my alternator is going bad, I start blowing my headlight bulbs - usually low beams first. This is consistent with both models ('96 Stanza and '07 Versa) I owned. The lights usually go out after I've started the car and turn them on.
