Check for vacuum leaks in the intake system. Is there any misfiring associated with this or will it just die without warning? What happens when you open the throttle? Check for chewed wires anywhere on the engine for the various sensors. Check for loose grounds. AFAIK whenever the throttle body connector is unplugged, idle air mass has to be relearned with a scan tool, however this doesn't sound like that. That usually only causes surging at idle as if there was a vacuum leak.
