When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed? Can you also be more specific in describing the issues you're having with your Versa Note?

 

To be honest, I’m not sure and I’m pretty sure that I should have it drained and refilled however, money is a little bit tight right now and I hear this is an expensive service. What’s happening is that the car is getting hung up in third and fourth gear and it’s taking a longer to shift than normal. It’s not slipping that I am aware of but from 2nd to 3rd is OK 3rd to 4th is taking long 4th to 5th is taking even longer and when I let go of the gas pedal so it can shift it will kick a little bit and the RPMs will drop all the way down and then come back up and it makes no sense to me. This just started happening a week ago.

I might search for a coupon for the transmission service.

I know my local Nissan dealership mails me coupons and sends out emails for "Specials" they are having that month.

Have you signed up for monthly email(s) from your local Nissan dealerships?? Have you googled to see if there are any coupons for Transmission Fluid change??

 

My wife drives our 2014 Versa Note.
I was under the impression that the Note had a Continuously Variable Transmission. Doesn't that mean there's no detent between gears. I have never taken one apart but I have been lead to believe they need to be cared for meticulously until they fail, then scrap the car. Ours was less than 70,000 miles and KBB has it valued at less than $2,500.

 

CVT shifts are faked in the later ones, the software ranges the trans up and down in rpm more to make people think there is shifting going on there. There is but a gradual thing if you are not driving it hard enough to make the fakery kick in. People just could not handle the original way the transmissions ran up the rpm band, they kept complaining they had something wrong with them.

That could easily be slipping trans.

 

I was talking to my neighbor about her Honda (yesterday) and it has a CVT transmission, she hates it. Apparently, she has started searching for a new car without a CVT and asked me about my car.

I told her I have a manual trans, I do the shifting.

 

CVT's that have their CVT fluid changed at regular intervals combined with not stomping on the accelerator and hard driving will last. This is what I've done with my Versa with CVT and no issues.

 

Yes, but a car that is as sensitive as many of our modern people are to the slightest thing is NOT one that I want, in my garage anyway. And if the last 75 years have showed anything, it is that the makers CAN make vehicles that you can use hardily with no fear of failure unless you utterly abuse them. Getting the makers to build them now?..........a major issue, the companies being loaded with incompetency from bottom to the top. The Rule of McDonalds has come to pass in these United (cough...cough) States.
