in case of emergency remove seat!!

Well over this past weekend I attended a car meet (G20's). It was at the beach so I brought my daughter with me. She grabbed my keys and went into the trunk to get her crayons. She came back and said "Dad I closed the trunk with the keys inside". No big deal right, just pull the trunk pop lever. Wait the Versa doesn't have one. So just fold the rear seats down. Wait the sedan doesn't have that option either unless you have an SL. So my 5 year old daughter proceeds to tell me we will have to call someone to bring us the spare keys. Except I lost those a long time ago :).

So what is one to do?!?!? Easy just pop up the rear seat cushion, unbolt the two 11mm bolts that hold the back of the seat on, lift the seat back up, and push the plastic divider out of the way. Total time for removal, get keys and replace was under 5 minutes.

Just thought I would share this story and info in case the same happens to anyone else. I want to replace those bolts with thumb screws or something where I wouldn't need tools. That way it's even easier to do the next time or if I have to carry something that I would normally have to lay the seat down if the car was so equipped.

No they do not. I don't think any versa without power locks has that button.
On never new that well learn something new every day lol and that's why I'm here lol
Thanks Rob, that's very helpful.

So SL sedans have the option that allows you to fold your rear seat down?

Yes they do. I was going to do a seat swap so I can have fold down seats but since I don't lock my car doors I use my trunk as sort of a safe for personal belongings. I figured the thumb screws or a wing type screw and no thieves would go through all that trouble in hopes something good might be in the trunk.

True, makes sence. And I'm interested in having my rear seat fold down. Would I have to swap seats or can I just install the brackets/setup in my car? I wouldn't want unmatched seats.
would definitely have to swap seats. There are more pieces with the fold down. It's not just brackets. Actually there really isn't any brackets. I wouldn't want mismatched either.

That's cool, I wouldn't mind having SL seats in my V. How would they be held in place though?
On the non folding ones there is just metal loops the two bolts go through. On the sl seats I dont really know how they bolt in. I assume the side pieces bolt the same way then those have brackets for the folding portions.
well that's an interesting predicament you got into over the weekend! lol glad you got your keys though :)

i got the 08 hatch and i dont have power doors and i stil have the truck pop button under the trim but it will only work it the driver door is unlocked

this is interesting. I can only assume it's a power lock on the trunk and driver door you have. There is no way it can be a mechanical linkage. I really should just install power locks on the car and swap out the trunk to one with a button.
Glad everything came out alright. Never knew that you could get a Versa without power locks but I have only been in a few '10 models and the '11 I no longer own.
Thanks for sharing as I am sure this will be useful later on.
Get the Hatchback

I'm renting the Nissan Versa 2013 Sedan and locked the key in the trunk. The manual Sedan does not offer a trunk release mechanism and does not have folding back seats to offer access to the trunk. The rental company E-Z Rent did not equip the car with an owners manual and failed at sending someone competent with a spare key. We researched and found this forum, which seemed extremely promising. However, after taking out every bolt in the back seat, to no avail, we were unable to get the back seat removed. Even if we were to get it removed, there seems to be a panel blocking access to the trunk.

Firstly, why would the manufacturer make it so a person cannot access the trunk even with tools?

Secondly, do NOT rent from E-Z Rent. Not only were they unhelpful, but they severely inconvenienced us. We waited three hours for a spare key that they promised to deliver that never arrived. When I drove to them the next morning to obtain the key, they asked for a $500 deposit for the key and did not offer any compensation for our inconvenience.

On topic, i hate when i disconnect my battery (which is now relocated to spare tire well) and close the hatch by accident, crawling through the back to reconnect the battery.

On a side note, why did you (or anyone else) buy the sedan?? Is it lighter or cheaper or something?
..... Firstly, why would the manufacturer make it so a person cannot access the trunk even with tools?......
I think a non accessible trunk from the passenger compartment is not unique to Nissan. I believe it's intentionally designed to keep the trunk secure. In fact, there are some cars that feature rear seat backs that fold down that are lockable using the ignition key. This is to make sure the trunk cannot be accessed without using a key, either from the outside or from the pass compartment.

Cars with non-folding rear seats most of the time will have a sound deadening panel behind the seat mostly as a cost saving move. They can put in the thinnest piece of fabric or rubber in the trunk and not bother to put in any acoustic paddding.
...why would the manufacturer make it so a person cannot access the trunk even with tools?

Because there aren't enough incidences of it happening, and not enough bitching.

Same as anything else, if enough people bitch about it it'll get put in a car, or if you have enough money to back it. Like the retarded idea that the design of a car must take into consideration hitting pedestrians (bumper/front end design) fuck the pedestrians, if you're stupid enough to get hit by a car.. all because of assholes like Ralph Nader...i digress...

They don't lose customers from you not being able to access the trunk because it's an afterthought, the money has already been made. Even when they do lose customers to a certain feature or lack of, they factor up all variables and decide if it's worth the money to keep those customers or whether they can be lost.

LOL. You have to blame the European, Japanese and Korean regulators for the pedestrian protection regulations. They started it, we're just followers!

I've had nissans for 20 years and they all had the same setup. Seems strange the 2013 would be different. Mine too after I removed all the bolts the seat doesn't just come right out. You need to grab a hold of it and lift up and out. Also mine had the panel there. I just pushed it in through the trunk. It was just a flimsy piece of plastic.
