Interior Door Handle/Cable broken

Hey guys,

2009 Versa hatchback here,

The interior handle on my driver door stopped working one day, forcing me to roll down the window and open the door from outside. I took off the door panel and discovered the cable has snapped, see pic below.

Is there an easy fix? It seems like the areas I need to reach to replace the cable are difficult to access.

Same thing happened to me. I also have a 2009 Versa HB SL. Dealership and local shop said I had to replace the entire mechanism. Dealership quoted me $145 just for the part (no install). The local shop quoted me $250 installed.

I'm currently looking for the part on the internet, but have had no luck. If you find something, please share a link!

Also, have you found a good link for removing the door panel? Not sure how to go about that.

2015 Hatchback here. I have the same problem. Cable broke right off on the handle side.

Not sure what I need to buy to fix this but I'm trying to avoid dropping $250 because some silly cable broke. If I learn more I will post.

Well here is a thought: If you can get the cable completely off with the end pieces. Check around the net and find a motorcycle shop that makes cables. There are several shops that make specialty cables. Usually in the $25 to $50 range.

If at least one end lends itself toward being able to shorten the outer housing the correct distance then fixing your own can be reality, I've done it more than once and on motorcycles too but the particulars change from situation to situation and likely would be a 20 page book at least.

I have two 'broken' ones running fine on cars right now. Cost maybe $5 each to fix.

My 2012 Versa SL driver's door actuator has been replaced for a third time! The same cable tip gave way each time. This is a defect my friends. I am not an abusive auto owner. I do not use my car for deliveries or frequent stops. 2015 was the first time it happened and I had just passed the warranty threshold. 2018 it happened again, same cable end tip gave way. No alternative except to replace the whole damn actuator assembly. Most recent happened in January of 2021. SAME PROBLEM! There is no way that this design is acceptable. The pictures show my third actuator that has failed. The assembly on the left is in pristine condition. Two of the three cables have their ends intact. Extremely disappointing is a polite understatement. I am pursuing a reimbursement from Nissan of my costs to replace the entire actuator assembly three times for one tiny faulty cable.
