Same thing happened to me. I also have a 2009 Versa HB SL. Dealership and local shop said I had to replace the entire mechanism. Dealership quoted me $145 just for the part (no install). The local shop quoted me $250 installed.
I'm currently looking for the part on the internet, but have had no luck. If you find something, please share a link!
Also, have you found a good link for removing the door panel? Not sure how to go about that.
