I have a minor heat warp in my rotors, and I'd like to upgrade to drilled units and ceramic pads. Does anyone have experience with the rotors that are available?

I used to cut rotors all day long. The vast majority of 'warped' parts are not warped at all, most of the time the disc has embedded pad material in it to change the surface friction in spots, then the disc appears to be warped. Throw it up on the machine and not warped at all but they argue with you all day long about it.

Yeah, but not many places turn rotors any more. Im in Richmond and there is like 2 shops that will turn them if you bring them in. A NAPA dealer on Chamberlayne Rd and an Orelieys in Chester, VA. Thats it, otherwise you need to buy them.

Me, I normally replace my rotors with pads and go with ceramic ones and crossed drilled slotted ones.

There are a few dealers on ebay and amazon that sell the good ones. :nerd:

Nobody cuts them because commonly they are past min spec anyway. You can pretty much get used to changing rotors every single time now, the transition from asbestos brakes to semi-metallic pretty much took care of that. Semi-metallic wear the rotors as fast as the pads, you are running metal-to-metal there. The days of the '60s and '70s where you ran the same disc over the life of the car are long gone.

I cut maybe 1 set out of 10 when I was in parts. All the rest would be under spec and cannot cut them.

The 'good ones'? LOL. Pretty much all are made of the same material and cast iron. The quality of the pour might figure in there. Here's the REAL difference, and more ripoff coming up. The typical one year warranty parts are cut UNDER what a brand new OEM disc will be at thickness wise. The longer warranty name brands make their discs the full thickness the OEM does. I pulled untold numbers of house branded parts to measure them and most will be maybe .010"-.020" thicker than the minimum spec, they will be considered as totally worn out in maybe a month of running. The better made ones will be the normal .080"-.100"+ that good quality parts are.

Like most other house branded parts the discs are crap and intended to make you buy more parts. I pretty much will not put a chain store branded part on my cars at all. When you sell them you realize how cruddy they are and the lifetime warranty thing is often how they suck you in to buy them.

Another little secret, ceramic pads while bragging they have less dust, we were told to train (brainwash) the public to it. The great lie. The pads DO make less dust, but what they don't tell you is that ceramic being harder wear the discs even faster.............that became obvious after a while too.
