Shouldn't be, they quite. Maybe you have a leak on your exhaust.

I have noticed that Nissan's motor does seem a bit louder compared to Toyota's and Subaru's. But I can't remember what the engine sounds like before modifications. Good luck on finding out what's wrong (if anything).

i deleted my muffler, but my 1.8 is still noticeably loud above 4000rpm[engine itself louder than my Altima engine at 4000rpm]
is never loudish at normal speeds/rpms, even before the delete.
also, how many miles on the car? engine condition? is it a piston slap noise...worse when it's cold?
^ yes check for exhaust manifold leak, though not common on 1.8L [is common for Ford 5.4L]

Mine get's loud at 4-5k rpm, once cruising, it quiets down. Same in the city, acceleration is kinda loud.

I think it's the lack of in-cabin sound dampening, for instance, I can hear a loud whoosh everytime the AC compressor goes on, where as in the rogue, it's silent. Also, if it's a CVT, it might run quieter or louder, depends on your foot. CVT whines a little, where as 4spd autos and 6 speed manuals have a distinct gear revs and shifts.
