My 2011 Versa MR18 engine seems to have ticking noise at start up. Seems to be more noticeable from a cold start up.

here's what mine sounds like when is cold, it still sounds the same

does yours sound the same?
It's been getting colder over here and the sound is much more noticeable than during the summer months.
haven't seen temps below 40 degrees.
We use timing chains which tend to be louder on startup. Especially when cold and when the car has sat for awhile. Not saying it's not piston slap but just sharing my knowledge of nissans. This is the 6th nissan I've owned wiith a timing chain. I've also found that you can get less noise if using a quality oil and oil filter.

Everything is louder in the winter/colder months. Even the injectors seem to tick louder. My car sounds totally different on a 90* day as opposed to a 30* day.

BTW since your car is new drive down to the dealer one morning and start up one of theirs with the nissan tech there. If it sounds the same as yours then nothing you can do. If it sounds normal and not like yours tell the tech to make it sound like that. Your under warranty and not saying it is but this could be the start of a bigger issue.
Atleast its not this bad.... :biggrinjester:

I played the video, my father heard it and said "what is that a diesel?" I said, nah it's a Versa. Then he said "that's oil, or lack of oil"
I don't know if what he said stands.. but thought I'd post it

ironically enough it had brand new mobil 1 oil in it, not even 2 weeks old.

I'm using Mobil 1 5/30 synthetic and a Bosh 3300 filter

if they can't would they just replace the engine?
Depending on the dealer, but most will tell you its normal and send you home. The worst part? It is normal. I'd say 90% of MR18 engines have the issue
This is interesting information. My 2011 MR18 sounds clattery as all he!!, almost like a diesel, in the morning if the temperature is near freezing. I'm glad that it is pretty much normal.

Cheers!

:)
I just took my versa in yesterday for the same noise. They told me its normal for the versa to make that noise. But if it gets worse then they will do something about it.
