Hi,
Can someone help me identify this part? Under the hood of a 2012 Nissan Versa SL hatchback. The part in question is in the red box (see photo). To the right of the mystery part is the black oil filler cap.

The mystery part appears to be solid rubber. It has a crack in the "stem" portion. What's it used for and how difficult is it to replace?

Thanks,

Michael

Can you zoom out? Looks like part of an engine mount/damper.
Hi,
I took the car into the Nissan dealer and he replaced the part. You called it out, it dampener (the rubber part suppress engine vibration). You can pick up one on Amazon. Its part of the front torque strut mount for the engine. The rubber part is attached to the metal strut. You have to replace the entire strut

https://www.amazon.ca/A4320-Torque-Strut-Front-Motor/dp/B008JPUB02?th=1&psc=1&source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20&ref=pd_sl_3p8rnf8mf_e

The Nissan parts guy said the rubber crumbles after a few years. He said he keeps a lot of these parts in stock. He does a lot of replacements on Versas and Rogues. To which I added..."Nissan builds a part that will fail". To which the Nissan parts guy frowned.

Thanks for the quick identification!

Its interesting an automatic would have that issue. Guess its a poor quality part to begin with? I know my engine has done some rockin and rollin under the hood of my versa. >:D

The weight at the end wobbles in opposition to the vibration of the motor because the wobble falls slightly behind the harmonic in timing. Meaning as the engine is vibrating down the weight is swinging up to counter part of it. Why they eventually wear out at the rocking point.

It's just a piece of solid steel matched by weight to what they need there. A lever in effect.

OP is correct, it's silly to buy a mount based on that one part coming off, about to figure out a way to refasten one down myself on mine to avoid buying the part.
