One thing I did was got an OBD II bluetooth device (roughly $15) and just used a free app called Torque (free) and would drive with my phone angled sitting between my steering wheel and speedometer. After a while you figure out when you should be shifting and what's too high. This is about what I've found out:
1st gear 0-14
2nd gear 15-27
3rd gear 28-39
4th gear 40-49
Just to let you know when you hit 3000 rpms until you get what you're looking for.
