Hey everyone. I just sat in the passenger seat of the versa my dad found and we want to buy. He has good intuition about cars, although he is not the most up to date guy. It is a 2010 Versa Sedan 1.8 S/SL (I think it is the SL version?) automatic with 12,800 miles. There is a scratch on the grill in the front and some stains on the passenger seat. It was used by a family with a small child and they are selling it. They put it on craigslist for $12,800 and we found out about it by word of my mouth and told them we want to buy it and they took it off craigslist right away and offered it for $12,000. My dad and I don't think you can find a better deal with used car prices so high for new and used cars and having to spend so much time sifting through trashy offers and investigating cars. I figured for that price I could get a Corolla or a Civic with 40k miles or more. We bought with cash too. We are not rich, we just had some savings.

I am kind of disappointed - the dash board and everything about the car feels a little too small for me. I am 5ft 8in and average build. I did not hear any clinking in the wheel, and the owner said it never had any problems with starting or power steering. Still under warranty for 9 more months. I am 25 years old and have always taking the train and the bus everywhere and only driven my dads car to work for two months while I had my permit. Got my license a few months ago, but was not sure if I wanted to spend the money on a car and have not seen a decent deal on craigslist. Once I drive it a little, I'll let you know how I like it!

I was wondering if people think I got a good deal on the car or not, or if it's worth asking to negotiate the price more?

Is it the S model or SL? Your post says SSL. Depending on what model you got will definitely say if you got a good deal. But if you are happy with the deal & car, then it is all good

The Title says 2010 Nissan Versa S/SL Sedan 4dr i4 dohc 16v. I think it is the SL version? The owner was not sure. It has the basic radio. I am reading more about horror stories about versa's clunking noise and also engine problems? on Nissan Versa Engine Problems - Car Forums - Edmunds and I am thinking holly shit, I already told the owner I will buy the car on Tuesday. I was wondering, am I in for lots of trips to the mechanic for problems that never get resolved with this car?

So now that I was about to buy the Versa thinking this was a good deal, I am reading all these horror stories online about acceleration not working when you press down on the gas or either the engine or power steering turning off while driving. Should I still get a Versa, or should I avoid getting a car alltogether or hold out for a Corolla? How common is having something not easily fixable wrong with the car?

With that mileage, I'd say its a good deal...SL or not. I have a base model(2010 1.6) and love it. 25K miles and no issues(thank God), purchased new.

Suggestion? I'd check the carfax, I'd also take it to a shop and make sure everything is in good shape. :thumbsup:

My friend told me one of his customers who comes to his store is selling a car, that's how I found this Versa. I checked the CAR FAX - it is good. The only sticking point is that it failed it's 1st year emissions test on the first try and passed it a month later. The owner said the dealer told his wife who drives the car that's because she forgot to close the gas cap and after she closed it and drove around for a week it would pass fine.

After I told my dad who test drove this Versa about all the acceleration and engine defects I read about, he said it did feel slow to accelerate, but I imagine that might be normal acceleration for 1.8 automatic Versa?

From reading complaints people post online, it seems Versa's common defects with acceleration, brakes, power steering, engine noise or wheel noise are all intermittent, so if I just test drive it before buying or even take it to mechanic to check, the car might not replicate the problem if it has one.
