I'm a fan of five and seven spoke rims, just look the best to me.
Sister in law had rather thin American Racing rims, looked great but got a dent easily on inner rim edge. IMO, get something sturdy, esp with those broken up roads, i hear ya.
The stock 16 inch SL rims seem to hold up well and look good.
