So I have and been working on a '08 Versa Hatchback 4 speed Auto. This car had one CEL code in the beginning which was a P0420 for the cat, which ended up getting replaced. I did a fluid change for both oil and transmission. It also was leaking around the transmission oil pan so I ended up changing the gasket it out also. Drove it around a bit, no codes, but I did notice that it wouldn't go into 4th gear, o/d wasn't engaged(light was off). I would be doing 60mph at roughly 4k-5k rpm and the engine would be roaring. I was previously a Nissan lube tech, so I'm sure I've done the fluid change properly. So I decide to check if there are any pending codes and there beholds, P0744 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent. After reading it moves over and turns into a CEL. Service manuals says it's a mechanical issue than a electrical issue. So I set the car in the garage for a copule days, I start the car and all of a sudden the code disappears. I got all stoked and thought it might've magically fixed itself. I go for a drive and its still not engaging fourth gear. So.....fuck. No check CEL, no pending codes. I assume it's a bad shift solenoid or a bad torque converter, but shouldn't it throw a code? Unless I need a OBD2 the reads tranny codes? What do yall think?

TL;DR?
- Did basic fluid change, replaced tranny oil pan gasket
- Not engaging 4th gear
- Check code P0744, CEL comes up
- Days later, CEL is gone
- New tranny?

P.S. when the car is on the "on" position(engine off) as i step on the petal I think the throttle body or something is making a buzzing noise.

Interesting.... I know cars where the torque converter clutch is burned out and it wont lock, but an indicator or code to tell you so?

I wonder if the code means the same that the lock up clutch is burned out?

Most automatics seem to have 1 more gear than advertised. When you reach highway speeds you may see your rpms drop another 500 or so like it entered another gear. This is actually the torque converter locking up. Some do it based on speed, others load some use a range of other sensors like temp, speed, load, etc.

So on top of having only 3 gears you also get this error? Other than check the connectors you can do a stall test, but that will just confirm something is wrong vs fix it.

Well I've been at it this past 10 or so days. After starting it up couple times here and there, I decided to read the codes. P0744 was pending.....So tore the pan off the tranny and check the solenoids again. All solenoid gets powered except for #4 . 1,2,3 has a firm click, 4 clicks but it sounds very dim. Uhhhh...so its probably stuck or something. Either way the transmission is going get replaced with a lower mileage one. Since I now work at a nissan junkyard/dismantle, free tranny for me ^.^ just gotta pay for labor >.> Thanks for the replies earlier you guys.
