Oil light comes on for a fraction of a second

Hi,

We all know that the oil light is 'on' when the key is in on position without the engine started.

The light should turn 'off' as soon as the engine is started.

But after i start my engine, the light goes 'off' as usual, but after a second, comes 'on' again for second, and then it goes 'off'. (It kind of flickers once before going off ultimately)

It had happened quite a few times, and happened today as well.

Oil levels are normal.

Is this a sign of worry?

it could be a malfunctioning oil pressure sensor.
^ Like he said, possibly a bad oil pressure switch.

Could also be a sign the oil pump is failing and has inadequate pressure.
Could just be a crappy oil filter. Just make sure your oil level is adequate and that's all you really can do at this point. I wouldn't attempt to swap sensors or anything yet. You might want to check to make sure you have no dents in your oil pan too.

Next oil change use the appropriate weight oil (5w-30) and a quality filter. I suggest purolator pure one.
Hi sgvaibhav,

As has already been said, 5W-30 oil, proper level, good filters, etc. Keep a watchout that it doesn't get worse or that the oil light doesn't come on and stay on.

Otherwise, don't worry about it.

Cheers!

Its 65FOA for a Versa right?

How much would be the the cost difference between an OEM filter and purolator pure one filter?

Im going for an early service this time (thursday most likely).. to avoid any sort of damage

Yes that is the correct number for the oil filter. Price is about the same for purolator pure one and dealer. Both about $7. I like the pure one because it got great reviews online and supposedly nissan started to cheap out on their construction a few years back. Plus it has a textured coating that makes installation and removal of the filter super easy. My hand slips on the smooth filters and I prefer not to use a tool when installing. That way I don't over tighten it.
All PERFECT after oil and filter change.
Light goes off within 0.5 seconds and never comes on =)
:thumbsup:glad it's all good
