I'm not needing plugs in my Versa yet but was just wondering if anyone had used Platinum plugs in their Versa. I've been using Bosch Platinum in the Ford's I've owned for the past 20+ years and have had good luck with them. I've ran several sets of Bosch Platinum 100K-125K miles and never replaced them because of a misfire just because they were getting so old and I felt guilty about leaving them in any longer. If you've used Platinum did you see any difference in the fuel mileage or performance of the engine using them?

The OEM plug there is likely iridium, which is a level higher than platinum. Platinum good for maybe 60K miles but iridium good for 100K.

Iridium for sure on the earlier ones where you have to yank the intake to install them, it lowers the number of times you have to do it.

Yes. Use the iridium plugs so that you do not have to take the intake manifold off before getting access to the spark plug.

It'll be a few years before I need another set of plugs. I've had good luck with Bosch Platinum in the past and was just wondering how Platinum held up in these engines. The thing that got me wondering about them was a thread I read earlier on this forum where someone had Iridium in their Versa for 20K miles and was already having to replace them again because the electrodes were nearly burnt away.

Incorrect, or incorrect plug used or inadequately stated. Iridium are by far the longest lasting tip available today and what cars use now to get to the so-called 100K tuneups before ever changing plugs.

I used to sell plugs.

Many many people confuse the normal heavier deposits that show with a crap running engine as the electrodes 'burning away' when you could easily clean the tips and see that is not true. Wider gaps can show on double tip plugs quickly too due to a crap welding of the point the precious metal is on, then it falls off from vibration to make a whopping increase in gap. Sometimes the tips aren't even there on plug out of the box, I've seen it way more than once. You have to look at every plug close for it.

I guarantee you that in a proper application with a normal correct running engine the iridium plug will outlast any platinum made.

FYI, I have the OEM iridiums in mine (MR 1.8) now at 90K miles and never been changed. I've had them out, they looked fine and went right back in.
