Hi... First post here:

I was hoping to find some help with an issue I’m having with our 09 versa hatchback.

When we turn off the key there is still power going to both the radio and 12v accessory socket. If the power button on the radio is pressed the radio itself turns off, but the clock is still illuminated. Turning the clock off using the clock button doesn’t stop the power drain as the battery is dead if it sits too long (overnight). Normally the accessory socket (12v cigarette lighter socket) will not work with the key removed but now it does.

I have done a little research and have not been able to get a clear answer.

All the fuses are seemingly good... but I didn’t think it would be a fuse since I figured they would STOP the power flow.

Any ideas on where to start and how to diagnose?

Found this while doing a search.............sounds weird but who knows................give it a shot and see what happens. Good luck

This was a very strange problem and the fix was even stranger. There are three large bolts in the driver's door jam. These bolts ground the body of the car to the frame. With a socket wrench, tighten all three bolts in order to make a solid ground to the car frame. Your trouble of the radio staying on and killing the battery will be fixed.

If a fuse blows to STOP power it may be doing that on a control chip that controls other devices to no longer turn them off.

In today's world you often have to think backwards to go forward.

FYI, on modern unibody there is no 'body' or 'frame' any longer, they are one piece, sometimes supplemented by a small subframe in the front or back with no electrical in it. Still, I would look into those bolts, they add grounds all over the cars today and there are reasons for them.

Retained accessory power?

If you have retained accessory power it should turn off any accessories when you open the door after turning off the car. Probably controlled by the BCM. If this is not functioning properly, you may have to replace the BCM! $$$
