I have a 2015 Versa Note SV hatchback, which has 215/45R17 tires, because that's how I purchased it. My issue is the bumpiness. It's intolerable. Every little bump I hit, reverberates throughout the driver and passengers bodies.

I am wondering if the problem is in the suspension or in the oversized rims/tires?

First thing I would check is the pressure in the tires. Next thing would be to check the suspension components to see if they are stock, or did the prior owner make some mechanical modifications to the car to give it a firmer ride. Last but not least, I would do a search on the brand and model of the tires that are on the car and see what their characteristics are regarding ride quality and handling ability.
