Hi everyone!

My mom have a Versa 2010 CVT and the local Nissan technicien have said that her rear brakes need to be changed only after 15000km. She drive the car very gently since the beginning. Her last car was a Mazda Protege and she was able to drive like 70-80000km (50k miles) before doing anything to the rear brakes. Same thing with my Honda Civic 2001.

  • bought the car in 2010
  • at 48000km
    - changed the front pads and turned the disks
    - changed the rear pads and turned the drums
  • at 63000km
    - technicien says that the rear brakes needs to be done soon, 2mm left
    - the front brakes is at 7mm
Is it normal?

thank you for your help!

Is the emergency brake handle way up? Is it high up? How many clicks does it take to hold the car from rolling on a gradual-to-somewhat-steep hill?

Close to normal, perhaps a bit high. If the same on a hill, then, is there certainty that the rear brake shoes and drums were done when charged for them at 48km? Is it the case, the originals are still on the car? If certainty does exist, then they probably did not properly set the e-brake on one or both sides when doing the brakes at 48k, especially if the drums were actually removed and turned. If the clicks are higher on a hill, 8-11, then the shoes are on too tight prematurely wearing and/or dragging.
