Just bought a Versa last week. I'm pretty cheap -- I wanted no frills transportation, and the Versa seemed to be the best deal. I bought a manual 1.6, no radio, no power anything (seriously cheap!)

So far it's been OK. I have a few issues though. I absolutely hate the window tinting -- it's too dark -- I can't see out the back window at night. I've tried playing with the rearview mirror to see if it's set incorrectly, but it doesn't get better. Any ideas? Is there another mirror I can purchase that helps with visibility? Or should I just replace the back window? :)

Also, there's only one keyhole for entering the car -- horribly inconvenient. So I went to Fry's and bought the Avital keyless entry system -- having that installed next week. Has anyone had experience with this product?

I'm also noticing a clunking noise when I go into first or second gear after backing the car up. I haven't exactly pinned down when I hear it, so I'll need to do so before I take it back for a check, but has anyone else had a similar issue? The first time I heard it, I thought something had fallen off the car.

Other than that, it's been ok. It's a fairly quiet, smooth ride for a low-cost vehicle.

Welcome! You'll find lots of good answers here!
I'm not a fan of real dark tinting either. A pro installer can remove it in minutes. Some folks here probably have too. I've never done it but it should be cheap or free:D
I love my factory keyless. I've never had one for my commuter car, now i love it:D
The clunk into 1st or 2nd is very normal. It's just the transmission/synchromesh doing it's thing. Will also do it after being in neutral for a few seconds...every stoplight!:D
I'm also cheap cheap cheap:Dbut i have no regrets getting a few more options for my V.
Hope this helps, and welcome! 08v
Thanks for the welcome and the answers!

I asked the salesman about removing the rear tint and he said it would affect the defrost system. I guess I'll ask the service manager instead ;-)

So the clunk is permanent? That's really odd.

I really didn't want auto locks -- just one more thing that can break! -- but one keyhole just wasn't going to cut it. So hopefully, this remote system will work OK. I will get an audio system eventually...
Welcome to the forum. 1.6 here as well. What year and color is yours?
Mine is a 2011 silver with black interior. It's cute :wink5:

I have 35% not too dark, not too light

but when the sun goes down, they get pretty dark

never had a Avital keyless entry system installed before, so I can't answer that one. that's one thing I love about my car, the keyless entry,
I find it EXTREMELY convenient, its got me spoiled.

when you take it back, tell them about the clunking. does it still have warranty?

Disable which feature?

The tires need to go -- too small! First flat I get, I'm switching to Michelins.

2001-2006 Sentra wheels have the same bolt pattern as the Versa 4x100/114 and 195/60/15, check them out if you dont want the SL alloys and want to keep a clean look
Wow, they're the same. What % is your tint? And I agree with Hschlick84. 07-up Sentra(non SE-R) alloys fit too. I think you need spacers though.

The auto locks. But I just realized you don't have the power locks. I don't know what I was thinking, lol.

I don't know what % tint I have -- it's just really dark! I called the dealership and was told that they could remove it for $300. I'll probably end up doing that -- it's really the only thing that bothers me about the car.

Great gas mileage -- I had 34.5 mpg on my first tank, and only about half of the mileage was highway. Sweet!

I was just wanting to replace the tires with Michelins. Will I have to get new wheels to do so?

90% of that cost is labour, the rest is a heat gun and soapy water. You can DIY.

Keep the wheels, if you want bigger tires then you'll have to get new wheels.
