Hi! This is my first thread ... pretty excited!

I have an '08 6-speed Versa, and I was curious about getting remote start.
I have asked random people I know and they have mentioned that it's possible to get remote start on a stick shift, but that some places don't recommend it. I understand I would have to park it in Neutral with the E brake, which is fine for me. Is there any other mechanical reasons/problems with getting it, besides the important "is it possible" question? I don't know a lot of in-depth car mechanical things so this is why I'm asking haha.

My second concern is that if I get it somewhere other than a Nissan dealer, will it void my warranty?

Thanks,
Katie

Welcome to the forums!
Are you the one that has the white 08 Versa on facebook?? (I think I commented on your photo).

I have no idea how to answer your question, lol, but I'm sure someone else can :)

Do you know if you have a chip in your key? If you do, then they would have to do something with the remote start to allow it to start without the key being inside. Perhaps they would have to install the chip in the car permanently. :S I really have no clue though, lol.

yeah, that's me :)
I'll post some pics of it sometime this week. I didn't know so many people had them. I really like that about the Versa too...it's really one of a kind. I get people all the time saying "what kind of car is that?", and of all of the small hatchbacks out there (Fit, Aveo, Yaris, Vibe etc.) the Versa is definitely the cutest!
yeah I don't know anything about chips or mechanical stuff either haha.

Lol, yes it is definitely the cutest! I love my lil V. She's super cute :)

And yes post some more pics. I'm curious as to why you have the sport bumpers / sideskirts and S model wheels (at least that is what was in your FB pic).

Welcome to the forum. Remote start is definitely possible on a manual car. Like mentioned above if you have a chipped key it may be very difficult though. Not sure how they work around that as all the manual cars I've seen with remote start didn't have chipped keys.

It will not void your warranty. It can however void any electrical portion of your warranty on your vehicle. Meaning if you have electrical problems after and nissan finds the fault to be the remote start they will not cover it. But say your transmission dies it should still be covered. It is nissan responsibility to prove the remote start caused the problem. Then again though I'm sure a dealer can find a way to prove the remote start was your problem no matter what. That is why they call them $tealerships :).

I would contact your local dealer and ask them that question and maybe try and get something in writing. And definitely go to a reputable installer which will back their work and warranty it. I wouldn't go to the lowest bidder.

Okay, I'll take some tomorrow and post them. To be honest, I don't really know what the difference is between the S and SL models? I feel kinda dumb not knowing but what's the difference? Is there a way to tell? I looked all over my car and in the manual for something that would show me... haha. My parents had it for 1 year before giving it to me to go away to school with...so I don't know if they chose to have sideskirts put on or if they come that way...

Lol. Basically your car has the S model hubcaps. However from your picture your sideskirts are body coloured (your parents could have had it painted), however, you have the front and rear sport bumpers. Also, the SL models have nicer material seats, along with the AUX input for your ipod.

Here are some comparison pictures.
Mine is the first pic, SL with the sport package added on. Note with the sport package my Versa has a sunroof and fog lights (standard from the factory).

Here is an SL model, without sport bumpers.

And here is an S model (again no sport bumpers). Note the change in wheels.
