Removing Interior Side Panels and Other Parts
Hello All,
I drive a 2008 Nissan Versa Hatchback S Model. I would like to take certain parts from the interior apart and make them black. The only problem is, I do not know how to take them off.
The following pictures show the area of which I would like to remove. In my Versa the side panels and trunk panels are tan. These are the pieces I want to remove and make black. Please look at the pictures below, Any part you see that is tan, I would like to remove (excluding the roof material in any picture you see.) The main areas I would like to remove are the side panels (the pieces that hold the seat belts) and the trunk panels. All help is appreciated. Thank you.

Most of them its as easy finding the pawls and prying them off with a panel removal tool. Just peel back the rubber trim around the doors, then stick in your favorite pry bar and pry until it pops. You can pry a little bit until you see where the connection is, and then move your pry bar to that location to get more leverage.
Do I need to do anything as far as shuting off the airbag system before I take these pieces off???
You should be good. I removed my dash trim with no issues. You can disconnect your battery if you want to go the safe route.
As long as you don't touch any wiring harnesses you should be alright.
To be on the safe side disconnect the battery so you don't get any air bag deployments.
I've taken off the same rear quarter panels you are inquiring about and painted them black. I've also taken down the head liner and front windshield pillar panels. Don't bother taking down the front seat belt panels because there too much of a pain in the @ss to take out. You can partially take them out but not fully and i painted everything black to match the rest of the black interior. I even painted the rear hatch panel. Don't try to take that one out either because it breaks really easy. I've seen it done. That's another panel you just paint in place.
I didn't disconnect the battery but probably should have to avoid a homer moment (doah!)
I bought this for the paint and it came out really nice. Buy Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Coating, Flat Black, 11 oz. Aerosol HVP106 at Advance Auto Parts
Just make sure to give the panels a light sanding before paint.

No problem. Don't get the gloss black because it looks like crap. I tried it and re-painted all the pieces with the flat black except the headliner, because it came out nice so i left it with the gloss black. The flat black matches the other black panels (dash, doors etc.) really nice. They should of made everything black (in my opinion) not the tan but i guess some people wouldn't of liked everything black. Wish there was an option for color choice when purchasing the car new.Thanks for the link on the Duplicolor paint. VV
