If you anticipate working on brake systems any more than once, i'd get a set of flare nut/line wrenches. A small set containing the most common sizes isn't too bad, and they go on sale once in a while at some places. Or else you'll keep rounding them off. I too learned the hard way when i was starting out. Flare nut wrenches get those out like butter compared to regular wrenches.

I would say you'll be fine just replacing that line yourself then bleed as usual. The way that line is oriented (up), you won't have a problem with air in the ABS module. You only get in trouble and need to take it to a shop when you have air inside that module, but unless either the system was drained for a while or you install a new module that is unlikely. How do you plan to get that nut out?

You'll be fine. Just bleed as normal.

I don't think he has a flaring kit.

He's just saying it would be cheaper to cut the line to get the nut off, put a new nut on then re flare it.
