Reverse lights staying on P0850

I have a 2018 Versa base 5 speed manual.
I got a P0850 code last week. Neutral safety switch. I cleared it to see if would come back on, it did.

Then I noticed that the reverse lights were staying on all the time. Ihad My wife sit in it and go through the gears and noticed that when put in reverse, the lights would go off. What the heck? The reverse lights went off for a few days, I figured they had burnt out, but then came on again yesterday. Clearing the code did not turn the reverse lights off, but I think the two are definitel

it’s a 3rd vehicle, so I haven’t ventured to the different switched on the tranny yet, but wanted to ask if any one had some prior familiarity with this issue? Is the reverse switch linked to the neutral switch thus the code? Any info to help me chase this down would be much appreciated.

Yes, but can be caused by shifter or cable adjustment too. They can put the neutral switch in the wrong position to be partly out of reverse to turn the light out. Or neutral switch itself at fault. Same switch does reverse too.

To add to the above, check lamp socket pin fitment on all the bulbs for the rear tail lamp assemblies and check the grounds for the lamp assemblies.

I know on automatic transmission versii, some transmission electronics share the same circuit as the taillamps, so any power or ground issue effects both.

The bulb sockets can heat up to deform to where sometimes the electricity cannot flow. Slightly rebend the metal contacts in a bit to make sure they positively touch like needed.
