Rewiring foglights..

hey guys, i have an SL with fog lights already installed, and i guess its nissan's style to make it so the fog lights will only turn on if the headlights are on. im wondering if anybody knows how to rewire the fog lights so i can turn them on without having my headlights on. ill be getting projectors soon and i think itll look awesome if i can have only the halos on with my fogs. thanks!

Ya unfortunately my fogs only come on when the headlights are on. It would be kind of nice if they turned on separately for the crazy foggy days we've been having :(.
I don't know the exact wires to do this with, but you need to find the wire that gets the power from the headlights going into the Body Control Module. You need to swap that to get power from the running lights instead of the headlights.

Sounds easy, and probably is. Haven't tried it myself yet.
so the fog lights on the SL won't turned on with just the parking lights on?

that is correct. the headlights MUST be on for the fog lights to turn on.

this article worked for my maxima. Dont know if the wiring is the same for the versa.

If its not, and you want to cut into the wiring you can take the wires from the fogs cut them and run them to a aftermarket switch
nice find! ill look into it!
same way works on infiniti G20's too. So that is two nissan's it works on.

speaks the truth
Ok thanks everyone. Ill try it out on my 01 altima and if it works ill try it on my versa

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:
Ok i think i almost got it on my altima but before i start on the versa, i cant find any relays like the pictures in the link. The altima has a box of relays in the engine bay kinda like a fuse box, but i cant find a relay box in the versa... Can anybody help?

all the relays and so forth are in the IPDM on the drivers fender to the right of the battery.
sigh... i give up. The Altima does not have a relay for the tail lights like in the link, so i tried rewiring it from the combination switch on the side of the steering wheel. i figured out what all of the wires in there do, and the right lo-beam headlight uses the same wire as the fogs. This way the fogs cannot be turned on without the headlight. Looking at wiring diagrams, i know exactly where i need to get to bypass this, but the wires are going too deep into the car, and im afraid to get in over my head.

In the Versa, i cannot find relays for the fog lights and tail lights, so again i can't follow that link. Also, i imagine the versas combination switch on the steering wheel is wired the same as the altima.....

i accept temporary defeat on this one. if i cant figure it out by spring, ill take another stab at the altima.

thanks for the help everyone!

on the 09 and newer versa they used a diff type of ipdm with circuit board integrated relays. If your ipdm is black then you have the newer ipdm, if you have the white ipdm then there may be away to jumper the parking light relay to the fog lamp relay so that you can have your fog lamps come on when you turn on the parking lights.

Looking over the wiring diagrams myself to basically do the same thing.
Wow sounds harder then it should be though. I would say follow the power wire from the head lights n clip them where the connect to the ipdm n just wire it to ur battery n for ur ground just put a toggle switch inside the car and that should turn it off n on
I thought the Versa didn't have fuses or relays for headlight and fog light operation. It's all controlled by a computer now. Am I wrong, or just not on the same page?
i couldnt tell you mine didnt come with foglights :(
