Roof/Bike Racks

Alright me and my Fiancee are officially getting into Mountain Biking, we don't know a damn thing about it but we're doing it because it's a fun physical outdoor activity.

With outdoor sports comes some vehicle mods! I'm a lot more excited than she is on this part but I'm looking to install a roof rack, along with two bike racks. I have a 2011 Sedan, so I don't have the benefit of everything looking cool on the hatch back so I'm looking for something that won't make my sedan look quite like a station wagon.

Post pics, give me some advice, and ideas about getting a roof rack...
Hell post some about mountain biking to if you're into it :thumb2:

I just installed a rhino rack on my 012, my wife and I were concerned with the lack of trunk space that our car has. It fits our kids stroller and that's about it lol. So we got the rack and a cargo carrier for long trips and extra storage. I looked into this a lot for about 2 weeks before I finally bought one. What I found out was that the rhino rack best suited our needs for the money. It was $260 on amazon. The problem with these cars is there is no existing rails so you have to buy a gutter less system. Thule and Yakima racks were way more expensive and I couldn't find a used system. However try Craigslist or eBay and see what you can find.

This is the only Versa sedan I've seen with roof racks but I like how it looks. What kind of bike do you have?

Sorry no sedan here, a hatch ... but I have the Thule set up for my mountain bike, and it was about $250 for the racks/fit kit from Nissan.
The Rocky Mount fork mount comes in a variety of colours (I bought the red one) and it was purchased from Rack Attack.

Just put the racks back on this weekend ... I remove them for the winter months....

A pic with the bike mounted (from summer 2012).

That's not bad at all, I was afraid that it would look odd on the sedan.

@Iluv:

That's a really good price, everywhere I'm looking seems like I'm going to spend $350+ just for the roof rack.

On bikes:

I don't have a bike yet but I'm into the whole support your local bike shop thing (well any local business for that matter). We have two shops near by and one is a Trek dealer the other Fuji. Fuji is more in my price range, here is the link of the bike I'm looking at Fuji Bikes | MOUNTAIN | MOUNTAIN SPORT | NEVADA 1.9 D

The owner seems pretty good, and talked me into the disc breaks. I might get it in about two weeks when I get my bills paid for this month. I live in Leesburg, so the Santos Trails will be a bi-weekly trip for me.
Ya the rack wasn't too bad of a price, it was cheaper than most rack shops.

It did not include the fairing though, that would be extra. (My bro gave me his old one).

When you say trails... what kind of trails are they? A gravel path? Fast single track? Is it technical with lots of rocks and roots? If its some type of paved path pass on disc brakes and move up to a bike with better components. With that Fuji your getting cheaper than cheap discs and pads. That is an entry level bike, with entry level components. If your only going to go once every couple weeks it should be ok for you, but if you get really into it your going to be itching for an upgrade pretty quick.

 for supporting your local bike shop! (former sponsored (NOT pro) xc racer who quit when their local bike shop went under)

It's a fast single track, not much technicals in FL other than roots, but yeah I'm as entry-level as it gets!

Good luck on your search man. Your Versa looks very similar to mine lol. Here's some pictures with two different kinds of racks.

These racks were awesome, but they seemed to affect the MPG's on my car 1-2mpg (if you're into being gas efficient) and the only other problem I had with them was that my bikes were a bit difficult to mount sometimes to the racks especially after riding only due to my height.

These racks were better because the bike was lighter and fork mounting is easier in general.

How much did they cost you? I like the idea of not having to take the front tire off
I had those same racks on another car and they work wonderfully. Even off road they would keep the bikes secure. I picked mine up off of craigslist for $30 for both of them, but that was back in 2006'ish

Just like Polie I found those on craigslist. I payed 125 for both..then re sold them for 160 later on :cornut:

Just browse craigslist around your area, sooner or later theyll pop up!

Found a Thule kit for $120! Maybe I can snatch up a good deal on a bike rack too
