Scratches on Versa are getting worse

Okay, as long as I can remember Ive always hated washing the V cause it always showed terrible scratches. But now I have like swirl scratches and like this glare/glaze thing going on. Ive been using megiuars products, and there swirl-X to remove these problems with a buffer. Looks great afterward until next wash. Then they appear all over again. I really don't know what to do anymore, and I hope I personally didn't screw up my paint, and there's nothing I can do. Can anyone please help me......

I tried to get some good pics.

The second picture really shows the marks you are talking about ...
I don't know what the cause could be ... maybe the buffer?
1. Wash the car (This will strip the wax and all the debris)
2. Use a clay bar (This will get rid of stuff you can't see but can feel to the touch)
3. Use polish (This should get rid of MOST swirls)
4. Wax (This will be the first line of defense from natural causes like rain)

If there are still swirl marks I would recommend using compound, polish then wax. I think its really important to wax at least twice a year. After winter and before. I also like to do one during the summer. I avoid car washes that uses bristols (pretty bad for the paint). I always hand wash the car with soft materials, I use nothing abrasive. During the winter I try and avoid using the brush on the body (that's probably because im paranoid).

Its possible; I have a buffer but I've never used it because I don't want to screw the up paint. I prefer elbow grease.

I fully clay and wax the car every spring and fall. In the summer I will use the quik wax spray occasionally after a wash. And I never take the car through auto car washes. If I take her to the car wash bay I bring my own materials, and never use their brush.

Ok. Well I have done all of that in the past. I wax twice a yr. Well im out here now. I just applied some meguiars polish I had. Seems to be doing good. I did swirl-x last week. So Im debating weather I do ultimate compound, or just apply the 2.0 tech wax. The paint is soft to the touch, and my hand just glides if not just "slips" over the paint. We will see what I will do.... Thanks for your support.
I use the meguiars polish as well. I hope it works out; keep us updated on how it goes.

well the polish seamed to work, and then I just decided to do the tech wax 2.0. Let it dry like it says, but it seemed to glare up again when removing it like earlier, but deff. not as bad. I just went over it with detailier spray, and that seemed to do the trick. It looks good, the problems are gone. Now the only thing I'm worried about is when I go to wash it next time, will it do the same thing again???
If it happens again when you wash it, is it what you are using to wash it that is causing it?
Hey great video!

I do not know if it will do the same thing again next time is washed

I was going to ask the same thing. I have a feeling its probably what you're using to wash your car. But thats good new, at least the problem is gone for now

The only thing I don't know is how well the touchless car washes are.
touchless car washes are awesome, used them several times never had any problems...they also have the massive blowers that dry off the vehicle before exiting

Touchless washes are the worst. They leave behind soap and some parts of the car don't get fully washed. The only car wash I go to is In and Out, in Brampton.
My local touchless car wash is not that great.

the one I go to uses cloth material like this

and it dries your car using the big blowers and they also do undercarriage wash to remove the Salt from the road

Touchless car washes cost a lot here and like Aaron said, they never fully wash the car and they don't dry it nicely. Plus some people have had horror stories. One family friend took his brand new pick up to a touchless wash. A wiper blade was stuck in the machine and scraped the crap out of his brand new truck, costing him thousands of dollars to repaint. I just wait until it's warm enough to wash her by hand.

Oh those horrible carwashes with "scratch belts" lol

belts...LMAO!!!

what do you use to wash your car?
Wash your car by hand, use two buckets and a good car wash. One bucket should be filled with soapy water and the other with just plain ole water. Rinse the car off and work from top to bottom going in forwards to back wards motions. Then when you want more suds stick the MICROFIBER washing mitt in the plain Jane water and shake it around. Then once you do that put it back in the soapy water and keep on washing. Do the top of the vehicle first (all the way around) then move to the belt line, and finally the bottom. I use two different Microfiber hand washing mitts, one for the bottom of the car and the other for the top. This will help the oils and road grime from spreading all over and scratching the paint.

Once the vehicle is washed good get a MICROFIBER drying towel and work from a top to bottom manner until it's dry. (don't forget the door jams)

Then you should go inside to the house and get a wal-mart or supermarket plastic bag, put that on you hand and LIGHTLY run you hand over the surface of the paint. This will really help you understand how many particles are attached to the surface. Once you get an idea you need to clay bar the vehicle. You can find a kit at any parts store or wal-mart, Target for around $20. Clay bar the vehicle per the instructions. You will noticed a smooth finish from then.

After this is where most get into trouble. Some will go out and get a rotary buffer and go to town with a wool wheel when they have no idea what the hell they are doing. Or the will buy one of those stupid Random Orbital cheap $20 machines at walmart that are only good for is a back massage.

You need to get the right equipment to get rid of those. I would suggest a Porter Cable 7424xp Buffer. This buffer is about $120 but it's got enough power to remove swirls, scratches and it's also a random orbital buffer so unless you have a dirty pad you shouldn't induce more scratches.

Get quality compounds, Swirl X hasn't done much for me and if you try to use it by hand I hope that you're stronger than Arnold back in his prime because you won't be able to do much by hand.

I would suggest Wolfgang Ultimate Swirl remover or if you don't want to spend that much just buy Ultimate compound at Advanced auto.

The key to buffing out the whole car is working in small areas with the Ultimate Compound. Don't do the whole care at once, do a 2 sq ft area and then move to another 2 sqft area until it's done. Once you got the car buffed and are happy with the results you can add a good quality wax. At this point there isn't a need for a Cleaner wax; you already did that when you buffed the paint. I use Wolfgang Sealant and then put a good thin coat of Carnuba on top of that to really make it look wet.

You can apply wax by hand or machine, the key is uniform thin coats.

To do a small car like a versa right it should take you at least 8 hours. But once it's done the car would look better than new and amazing.

Go over to WWW.AUTOGEEK.NET They have a great forum with an amazing amounts of information that you can use. Plus they are also a company that sells auto care products. I'm a customer from them and had great service. Sign up on the forums and ask away, they're some nice folks that will do anything to help you out. Plus look at their Autogeek.net youtube page and they have some great videos that will help you out a ton.

Finally, here are some before and semi after photos of the fiances honda. The afters are only after a buffing and one coat of glaze. I ran out of light and time that night and put on a a coat of sealant and wax after that.

To get to that point I washed, clay bar, swirl remover polish (wolfgang), and glaze (wolfgang also).

Hope this helps.
