The "Service Engine Soon" light has come on for my daughters 2010 Versa. 18,500 miles, auto.

We don't have a manual and wonder how to find out what the light is indicating. She took it to Autozone to get the code read, but they said their reader is for the CEL and not the SES light.

Is there a way to determine what it is without taking it to a shop? My other car has a blinking light code read-out and wonder if the Versa has the same thing. Can't seem to find info. Tks in advance.

'Also a CEL and SES is the same thing.'

X2....................you got ahold of the rookie codereader there. Try again. 'CEL' (Check Engine Light) is a universal term that means 'service engine soon' too. Another term meaning the same is MIL, or Malfunction Indicator Light.

All the same thing. Confusion is what drives the owners into the dealerships to spend 10X too much on what is often still crappy work.
