Hi Guys:
I bought new mufflers (both central and rear) and tried to install it today. After I took off the central muffler, I found that the bolts and nuts which joins the central muffler and the catalyst converter have corroded badly. But I can't replace it with new bolts and nuts. Because it looks like the nuts are welded on the catalytic converter!!

Does anyone know how to take them off? Thank you!

They may look like crap but they will come out. As long as theres threads in the nut when your done you can put new bolts on but if you strip the nut drill the nut out and run a longer bolt through that and put a new nut and washer on.

Also usually the nuts have a tang on them to get them not to spin. They are usually not welded unless some hack did that. I would assume thats what happend and in that case i would buy new exhaust bolts with the little tab nut and get the old welded on crap off.

Soak them with some spray lube. This is one of those times impacts are great to have. It should come out though.

Well in my opinion as a matter of fact when i had an issue with my Nissan which i have been providing for car rental. The nuts may look like junk but they will come out nicely. Simply just oil it up nicely and gently and try to drill it out and after pulling it out i suggest you to use new ones with washer and i guarantee that the nuts will perform great.
