Anybody have any information on what it would take to swap a sr20 into a versa?

It's been done in a tiida, a few tiidas. Not in a street car though.
it seems so mouch more worth it than screwing around with any MR engine
If you're doing a SR20DET swap it would not be street legal. It is for all intents and purposes a track car. You cannot put an engine that is older than the chassis only same year or newer.

This was discussed in NICO:
sr20det versa engine swap : Versa General Chat

Sorry for being a buzz kill :(
tints, lowering, HID's, and many other things aren't street legal either. No one pays attention to any of that except maybe in california.

I say go for it. Even an NA SR20 would make a Versa quite a beast.

Exactly, everyone in that link says it's illegal but no one says why. I'd say go for it.
Dang California and their strict vehicle laws!
Here in Florida there are all kinds of crazy swaps, I have seen a crx with a rwd Sr20det. Then the 240s that usually get sr20 swaps get LS v8s.
I've seen SR20s in Integras. It can be done.
Engine swaps in washington state are not illegal and my cars registered in kitsap county so I never have to pass emissions. I had a 85 gsl-se with a s5 peripheral port for my first car god I miss that car. But back to the versa Ill just need a donor engine and trans then..kinda sucks nissans have turned into such turds...i can't believe they dont even make a turbo 4 cylinder for there small cars..

MR16ddt in the juke. The juke is a tiny car. But I think I know what you mean.
I know but the mr16ddt isnt worth mentioning 188hp out of a 1.6t is sad chevy gets 144hp out of a 1.4t. Honestly I think nissan messed up when they went to renault. They were making 245hp with the sr20 before they canned it. They should have went with a smaller displacement turbo like the cruz or the 1.0t in the fiesta that makes 125hp and 35+mpg. Nissan fell off the technology truck except for the r35 but that not even a skyline anymore....

dont get me wrong i like the car it just feels 10years old already
Your not gonna be able to run much more the 200hp without having the clutch slip, Fox Marketing has already found that out for us. So 180hp Juke motor is a good way to go, and cheaper I'm sure. Plus there are modifications for that motor, and tuning.

You do realize renault if famous for their turbo charged engines right? And you do realize the mr16ddt gets more hp per liter then the chevy's 1.4?

renault megane RS 2.0t with 265hp

The last SR20 was an SR20VET that made 280hp. Too bad they only stuck it in an SUV.

and you realize renault is renault... theres a reason they are not sold in the US. And you realize mercedes is getting 360hp out of a 2.0T?

You seem to have a distaste for Renault. I'm not a big fan myself but blaming them for nissan's demise is just plain silly. Fact of the matter is nissan wouldn't even be here today if not for them. They were on the verge of bankruptcy in the late 90's early 00's. The same time when everyone said they made good cars. The problem is none of us actually bought them. Hopefully since nissan is actually making profits now they can get back to some of the roots and make more stuff we like. The gtr is good, I'm a fan of the 370z as well. The juke is also my cup of tea. The gas sipper in me is quite impressed with the mpg of the new CVT altima. All the reviewers are getting in the 40's on the highway. But we are missing a small sporty car. Either a hot fwd hatch or a rwd coupe. Sure it won't sell a ton but I think they can make it profitable.

That Mercedes right there is amazing. That engine is really tuned in and I look forward to reading more about it. The next q50 is suppose to come out with a 2.0t base model with an engine borrowed from Merc. Maybe it will get a version of that.

You sir are correct :) I dont like any french car maybe its the german in me... idk. But i'm not blaming them for nissans demise. They bailed out nissan which is cool I just wish there was more nissan left :(
couldn't agree with you more. I've owned an s13, s14, pathfinder back when it was a real pathfinder, and an sr20 powered infiniti G20 (nissan primera). Loved those days and all those cars.

I may be moving on from nissan after the Versa. Even though I like some of the new offerings, nothing gives me that feeling I had when I had my old nissans.

I agree with this post totally. A good friend of mine has a 2013 Focus ST. That hatch has sooooo much pep, and if he wants, he can still get 30mpg. If only Nissan came out with a nismo Versa....

Even Kia is coming out with a turbo hatch Forte.

Something else to add: has anybody thought about putting a MR16DDT in the Versa (if it fits). $2200 bucks gets you a MR16DDT that supposedly mates to a CVT.

yes but your talking about an engine swap to gain what 70hp over the 1.8. Seems like a lot of work for that little amount of power gain. Also what kind of aftermarket support is there for the mr16ddt
