stock radio, better speakers?

My versa has just 2 speakers and they are pretty bad quality. My question is if I can retain the stock radio and just replace the speakers for improved sound quality or is some of the sound factor in the radio too? Im thinking the cheapest Kicker 6.5's is what Ill get. looking to spend about $60 bucks but only if speakers alone will do the trick.

only 2 speakers?
Replacing the speakers will help alot but I'd replace the headunit as well. Do you plan on adding the other 2 speakers? As far as I know you have to replace the headunit if you do.
i replaced my front 6.75s which helped the high end a lot, but didn't help the bass at all.
wife's Altima stock 6x9s have better bass. both cars using stock head units
yes its a Versa sedan base model it has 2 front door speakers. and due to how theres no harness run into the rear dor for possible addition of rear speakers, I dont plan to add any. I was hoping for a little more bass but mainly clarity. thought about putting my L5's in the trunk but I dont wanna tear apart the interior of a brand new car lol
athikerguy4life just posted a thread about making custom boxes for wheel well, wedge, or in the spare tire compartment boxes and these are all custom stealth boxes.

I'll try to find his thread...

aftermarket speakers are better than oems.
Personally I would get a new head unit before new speakers.

I bought both a kenwood excelon head unit and two kenwood speakers for the front. Got as far as installing the head unit and taking apart the door and speaker assembly to see what I was up against.

With just the new HU I have noticed an improved sound quality but I'm not sure the stock speakers will handle the power very long. When I pulled them out to figure out how to put the new ones in I noticed they are a third the weight of the new speakers and made fairly cheaply.

I've been running this set up for about a week and could easily live with it if need be. I have two twelve inch alpine subs I have to pick up from my friends house and will wait until funds are available to buy an amp and install the whole set up.

I'd add rear speakers as well, it would sound alot better if you do. Shouldn't be hard to run the wiring. As far as the bass, the aftermarket headunit should help with that.
:thumb2:Yup change the deck or else no bass what so ever with stock one.
thanks for the input everybody. I think im gonna put the speakers in it and then maybe the headunit a while from now.
Any update? Same boat as you. Did just speakers fix the problem?
