I have replaced the cabin air filter three or four times now on mine. I have used several different brands, some bought locally and one or two from amazon. So far, I have managed to get the filter in without breaking the tab. It has been about a year since I last replaced one, so my memory is a little fuzzy on what exactly the trick is but from what I recollect, the tab has to be somewhat flimsy and flexible because it has to be manipulated a little bit to get it to fit. Very little force is needed for this, and I always have to mess with it a little to get it to work.

I might have this backwards, but I believe you have to kind of push it down a little bit, then in and back up again to get it to catch. It is a stupid design that takes something simple and makes it more difficult than it should be, not that this is a complex thing to do. I wouldn't fault the brand of filter you are using.
